The Health app on iPhone doesn't just track your movement, sleep, and other physical metrics. It also includes a Mental State feature that makes it easy to record how you're feeling throughout the day. Apple added it in iOS 17 and its main advantage is that you can complete the entire registration in just a few moments.

It's not a complicated diary. Simply select your current mood on a scale from very unpleasant to very pleasant and add additional information as needed. This way, you can gradually gain an overview of how your mood changes over time.

How to record your current mood

Open the Health app and go to the ProHere, find the section dedicated to mental health and open the Mental State item.

You can then use the slider to select how you are feeling right now. If you want, you can also add factors that influenced your mood or a more precise description of your current feelings. However, you don't have to fill in everything - the feature can also be used as a quick note.

More important is the development over time

One piece of data on its own doesn't say much. The feature becomes more interesting when you record your mood regularly. Over time, you'll get an overview where you can track your progress and any connections with other data stored in the Health app.

The ability to go back to older entries is one of the main advantages over a regular note. Everything stays in one place and you can easily track whether your mood changes over a certain period.

A mental status record can also be entered from Apple Watch, so you don't have to pull out for every mood change iPhoneThe whole process is quick and unobtrusive, which is important when used regularly. If you want to have a better overview of how you feel throughout the day in addition to your physical data, this part of the Health app is worth trying.
