We've seen leaks about the upcoming LEGO PlayStation several times in recent weeks, but now we've got some more information about the set that sounds really interesting to fans of the original Sony console. According to the latest leak, LEGO is preparing the 72306 PlayStation set, which is supposed to offer an almost faithful reproduction of the original PlayStation 1 and on top of that, add a few surprises hidden right in the construction. Neither LEGO nor Sony have officially confirmed its existence yet, but given how much information is already out there about the upcoming set, its implementation seems very likely.

Almost like a real PlayStation
According to information currently circulating among LEGO leakery , the kit is to carry the number 72306 and consist of a respectable 1,911 pieces. The price is to be around $160, with the release reportedly scheduled for October 1, 2026. But more interesting is the design itself. LEGO is said to create the original PlayStation in almost 1:1 scale. When opened, the console is to measure approximately 26 cm wide and 17 cm high. The kit is to of course also include the iconic first-generation PlayStation controller, i.e. in the version without analog sticks.
Game dioramas are supposed to be hidden inside
One of the most interesting news is the information about the side parts of the kit. These are supposed to slide out and reveal small dioramas inspired by the games Gran Turismo and Ape Escape, which is a detail that I like in similar LEGO sets. At first glance, you get an iconic console that may function as a nostalgic decoration, but upon closer inspection, it starts to reveal other things.
According to the leak, the entire set is literally packed with various Easter eggs and interesting uses of LEGO pieces. The exact list of all references is of course not yet known, but given the history of the PlayStation, there are definitely plenty of possibilities where the designers could hide various allusions.
And then there's Astro Bot
Even more interesting is the fact that another LEGO set, numbered 40899 Astro Bot, is also supposed to be linked to the PlayStation. According to previous leaks, this is supposed to function as a GWP, i.e. a gift with purchase. If the information is confirmed, customers should receive it when purchasing a PlayStation through LEGO Storesa LEGO.com, while supplies last.
Astro Bot is a rather surprising choice. The character has become one of the modern symbols of PlayStation in recent years, and the 2024 game of the same name has won a huge number of awards, including the title of Game of the Year. However, the connection with the original PlayStation 1 is a bit of a nostalgic time loop. The first PlayStation dates back to the first half of the 90s, while Astro Bot is a symbol of a much more recent era of Sony. Perhaps that is why it could work very well as a bonus.

Still just a leak for now
However, it is important to note that neither the LEGO PlayStation nor Astro Bot are officially confirmed products yet. Information comes from LEGO leakerThe information is based on official sources and individual details may still change. In fact, there is a warning about the price that this is only preliminary information. But if the current information proves to be true, we definitely have something to look forward to this fall. 1,911 pieces, almost the actual size of the original PlayStation, slide-out game dioramas and supposedly a free Astro Bot. For around $160, this could be one of the most interesting LEGO sets for video game fans this year.
And honestly? If LEGO can really build the original PlayStation to look as good as it does in the leaked materials, it will be exactly the type of kit that you buy not just for the building, but mainly for a good dose of nostalgia.
Lego really doesn't know what to make anymore. Personally, I'm for the return of the old building kits, where you could build more than one thing from one "box"...
I wonder if someone will take the plunge and make this a playable PlayStation like they made the first Gameboy rock.
New🤣… I've been using the app that can do this for 2 years🤦🏻.
