Apple According to available information, it is scheduled to introduce its new smart home products this afternoon, which should include a completely new device. HomeView as a smart display that is supposed to become the brain of your home. And although we have heard quite a lot about this news in recent weeks, at the last minute more interesting information has now emerged that suggests that Apple has really big plans for this product. Leaker A social media user named X, known as pdfu, has discovered details about the front-facing camera in the macOS 26.7 RC1 code. And if his findings are confirmed, it will definitely not be just an ordinary camera designed for video calls.

HomeView recognizes you by your face and movements
According to published information, it has Apple u HomeView can count on a Sony IMX614 image sensor, which will offer a resolution of approximately 11,3 MPx, specifically 3744 × 3024 pixels, while the camera should be able to record at 30 or 60 frames per second. Much more interesting than the resolution itself, however, are the functions it has Apple thanks to this sensor to offer.
HomeView is supposed to be able to recognize not only human faces, but also entire figures, hands, cats or dogs. The system is also supposed to support tracking people across individual images based on their character's appearance, as well as three-dimensional face tracking including its position, rotation and possibly facial expressions. In practice, the device could, for example, recognize that someone is in front of it and adapt its behavior accordingly. After all, automatic waking up when motion is detected is another function that the discovered code is counting on.
However, it is important to add that three-dimensional tracking does not mean any Face ID or anything similar, but only what the front 2D camera can handle. Personally, I would not count on perfect reliability and accuracy in this regard, i.e. minilittle compared to Face IDOn the other hand, the perfect recognition required in biometrics doesn't really make sense here, so I wouldn't really talk about the negative.
Apple is also preparing other interesting features
However, the list of interesting features does not end with person recognition. The camera is also supposed to support proximity detection of up to four devices simultaneously, including information about their spatial orientation. However, I would bet that this functionality will be tied to ultraU-series broadband chips, which contain "only" newer Apple products released after 2019. If this is confirmed, your recognition may be quite reliable thanks to the combination of your appearance and, for example, a signal from Apple Watch on the wrist.
Another new feature is the ability to estimate the position of light sources in a room and their color characteristics. What exactly is it for? Apple It is not yet clear whether these options will be used, but more advanced smart home automation or adapting the user environment to current conditions are possible.
What is interesting, on the contrary, is what is missing in the discovered configuration. Apple It apparently doesn't include an infrared sensor, so it's unclear how the system will work in the dark. It also lacks features for tracking user attention or measuring distance from the display. Instead, all recognition is supposed to be done using a regular color camera.

However, it is important to emphasize that the information comes from the older macOS 26.7 RC1 code and the leaker himself points out that the specifications may have changed in the meantime. So whether HomeWhether the View will actually offer all of the above features is not yet certain. However, if the information is confirmed, it could be one of the most interesting devices that Apple has prepared for the smart home in recent years. As a smart home user, I am all the more excited and hope that the device will go on sale in the European Union.
