The court rejected the arguments Applu and request Masima

The judge dismissed the argument in his decision Applu that granting interest would constitute unjust enrichment for Masimo. Citing guidance from the US Supreme Court, he stated that interest on royalties owed serves purely to properly compensate the patent owner.

On the other hand, the court did not fully satisfy the plaintiff's demands. Masimo originally requested that interest be calculated at the California rate of 7%, which the judge rejected. Instead, he chose a rate corresponding to Masimo's actual debt costs, and despite this reduction, the annual interest rate increased the total amount owed by the aforementioned $184 million.
