Flexible phones have been around for a few years now, but manufacturers still haven't been able to completely eliminate one of their typical drawbacks: the crease in the middle of the flexible display, which can become more pronounced over time. Apple however, this problem was solved with its first foldable iPhone Duo solved in a rather interesting way, or rather ways. First, the top layer of the flexible display is matte, which makes the bend above the hinge less visible, but more importantly, it is also replaceable.

The vice president of hardware engineering came out with information about the replaceable top layer a few hours ago. Apple Kate Bergeron, according to which there is a special covering layer above the folding panel itself, which Apple designed to withstand wear and tear for as long as possible. However, once it wears out over time and the crease becomes more pronounced, it can be removed and replaced by a new one at a service center. This way, the user will not have to replace the entire extremely expensive foldable display due to wear and tear of this layer.

But of course, the replacement will not be free. In the price list AppleCare This procedure costs $19 in the USA, with the price list excluding AppleCare unfortunately, it is not yet available. However, for a phone whose US price starts at $1999, such a solution is definitely interesting. The foldable display is one of the parts of the device where long-term wear can be the biggest concern, and although not Apple Of course, it cannot bypass physics and remove the fold itself from the design of the foldable OLED panel, it fights this problem smartly and, most importantly, actively. So, hopefully the phone will really be worth it.
