In the U.S., Apple sells the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max without a physical SIM card slot. According to Apple, this design change allows for a larger battery, as the space previously taken up by the SIM tray can now be used for additional capacity. While that sounds great, these eSIM-only models are not officially available in Europe. Apple does not list them on its official EU website, and authorized retailers also won’t be offering them. In Europe, only the versions of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max with a physical SIM slot are available — and these have a battery life that’s two hours shorter than the U.S. models. According to Apple.com, the U.S. iPhone 2 Pro (without a SIM tray) offers up to 17 hours of video playback, which Apple uses as a benchmark for battery life. By contrast, the European iPhone 33 Pro (with a SIM tray) lasts up to 17 hours.

When iPhone 17 Pro offered in the US without a SIM card slot, it is 39 hours of video playback, while iPhone 17 Pro offered in the EU only lasts for 37 hours of video playback. So if you've been bothered by the difference between the EU and the US, which Apple does in the form of features such as mirroring iPhone, Apple Intelligence or other gadgets, so this is the first time in history that Apple made a real hardware difference between the EU and the USA. What's funny is that in the Czech Republic and the rest of the EU it offers Apple iPhone Air, which is only available without a physical SIM card slot.
