Apple recently introduced a new feature in the Find app that will arrive along with iOS 18.2. This will allow users to temporarily share the location of their AirTags with trusted people, as well as airlines. The feature will be available to more than 15 airlines, including Delta, United, Air Canada, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, KLM, Lufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, Aer Lingus, Brussels Airlines, Eurowings, Iberia, SWISS, Turkish Airlines, and Vueling, among others. It is expected that other airlines will join this initiative over time.

According to AppThe feature will be integrated into individual airlines' customer services, making it easier to locate lost or delayed baggage equipped with AirTag. iPhone, iPad and Mac users with iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2 will now be able to create a "Share item location" link in the Find app. This link will then be able to be shared with a trusted person or with the airline, who will then see the location of the item on the map with automatic updates on the website. Location sharing will automatically end when a user is connected to their item or after seven days have passed.

Apple said it has worked with airlines to implement a system that securely handles shared links. Access to them will be restricted and users will have to authenticate via Apple account or partner email address. "Network Find My a Air"Tags are a powerful combination for travel. They provide invaluable information about the location of luggage that has been lost, for example. Thanks to this innovation, users can now easily share this information directly with third parties, such as airlines, with an emphasis on their privacy," said the head of services AppHey, Eddy Cue.

The function is available not only for AirTags, but also for third-party accessories that support the Find network. Apple confirmed that iOS 18.2 will be released in December, as will iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2.
