TSMC has revealed a number of new technologies with which it plans to improve both the manufacturing processes and the chips themselves. The fundamental change is the process referred to as A16 (1,6nm manufacturing), a new technology that significantly increases the density and performance of chips and promises substantial improvements for chips manufactured from 2026. The manufacturing technology using the 1,6nm process includes innovative nano-layer transistors together with a new solution for rear power supply of processors.

At the same time, TSMC expects that the performance of the processors will increase only thanks to this technology by 8-10%, but at the same time, the energy consumption will decrease by 15-20% for the same performance. Apple could be one of the first manufacturers in the world to use chips produced by this technology in their iPhoneWhen TSMC started producing 3nm chips, it was Apple, which brought them to market in the form of Apple A17 in iPhone 15 Pro a iPhone 15 Pro MaxThe same process can therefore be expected for 1,6 nm chips.

TSMC is also making significant progress in manufacturing using 2nm and 1,4nm chips, of which the 2nm chips should start to be produced in the second half of this year as part of the trial process, and next year it will already be a classic commercial production. In 2025, processors should be waiting for us Apple A19 manufactured using a 2nm process, in 2026 using a 1,6nm process and in 2027 we will probably see a 1,2nm process. Each individual manufacturing process outperforms the previous manufacturing process in terms of transistor density, performance and efficiency.
