With the advent of models iPhone 14 Apple introduced the feature Accident detection, which automatically contacts emergency services in the event of a collision. This certainly useful tool already has a history of saving human lives, but there have also been a number of complaints about its accidental activation, for example, when skiing, in amusement parks and similar situations.

In an effort to reduce unwarranted calls, the company has implemented several system updates in the past few years. iOS 16 introduced optimizations for crash detection and now has new recommendations for users who accidentally experience crash detection. In the updated support document Apple advises users not to hang up on an accidental call, but instead to explain the situation to an emergency operator.

Company Apple it also removed information from the document advising users to cancel the call during the timer countdown. "If you do not need to contact emergency services, tap Cancel to confirm that you do not need emergency services," read the original sentence. It is worth noting here that in Czech version document, this information remains unchanged for the time being.

In any case, from the effort AppIt appears that he wants to prevent iPhone users from interrupting or hanging up emergency calls that have already been initiated, leaving rescuers wondering what happened.

In this regard, dispatchers of emergency lines around the ski slopes are particularly dissatisfied with the number of random calls that are received from the Accident Detection function. Falls while skiing and snowboarding can trigger it, and due to the heavy clothing worn during these activities, iPhone and watch owners Apple Watch sometimes they don't even notice that an emergency call has been made.

For example, in Summit County, Colorado, 185 accidental calls were received in one week in January due to Accident Detection, wasting time and resources needed for real emergencies. The director of the local emergency service, Trina Dummerová, commented in February that this results in an unnecessary overload of dispatchers and a wasteful use of limited resources that would be needed for real emergencies".

In response, the company Apple sent four deputies to the district to observe the emergency call center, and since then, further optimizations of the function have been added.

Accident detection is available in models iPhone 14 and in the latest Apple WatchUsing sensors such as the accelerometer and gyroscope, it is able to detect serious autooneand automatically call emergency services if the user does not respond to the alert within 20 seconds.
