If you have looked at our magazine at least once in the last few days, you surely did not miss that at the beginning of this week Apple EventSpecifically, it was the most important conference of the whole year – we saw the introduction of the new iPhones 13 and 13 Prowhich are for Apple of course the most important. However, it should be mentioned that Apple phones are not the only product that the Californian giant has introduced. As expected, we also received Apple Watch Series 7, along with the new generation of iPad mini and the classic iPad. In the case of the iPad, this is the ninth generation and in this article we will look at a comparison with the previous generation.

Procesor, memory, technology
In our comparison articles, we almost always start by focusing on the main chip and other hardware – and this time it will be no different. The new iPad (9th generation) offers the A13 Bionic chip, which, among other things, beats in iPhonech 11. This is a six-core chip that has four energy-saving cores and two performance cores. MaxThe maximum frequency of this chip is 2.65 GHz. As for the eighth-generation iPad, it offers a one-year older chip in the form of the A12 Bionic, which can be found, for example, in the iPhone XS. This chip has six cores, two of which are performance-oriented and four are energy-efficient. MaxThe maximum clock frequency is set at 2.49 GHz. The performance difference is therefore noticeable.
Another important data for most users is the RAM capacity. Apple However, Apple never mentions this information when introducing new Apple products. So we always have to wait a while for this information to appear somewhere. The good news is that we have been waiting and can confirm that the iPad (9th generation) offers the same amount of RAM as the iPad (8th generation), i.e. 3 GB. Both devices compared offer biometric protection Touch ID, which is built into the home button. As for the volume buttons, they are on the left side of both models, while the power button is still on the top. Below are the speaker holes, between which in both cases is the outdatedoneKTOR LightningBoth models are available in two versions, Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular. If you buy the latter variantu, so you can look forward to support for 4G LTE connectivity. You can get this connection either by using the nanoSIM slot, or you can use eSIM.
Battery and charging
As well as Apple does not specify the size of the RAM, nor does it specify the battery capacity. In this case, too, it is necessary to wait some time before the exact capacity of the batteries of the new devices appears in public. We learned that the battery of the ninth-generation iPad has the same capacity as the battery of the eighth-generation iPad, namely 8827 mAh. In both cases, such a battery should be enough for up to 10 hours of web browsing via Wi-Fi or watching video, or 9 hours of web browsing using mobile data. In the package of the iPad (9th generation) you will find a power adapter, along with a USB-C – Lightning cable, the same is true for the previous iPad (8th generation).
Design and display
Both models have aluminum chassis and it should be noted that there haven't been many changes in terms of design. This means that both the 9th generation iPad and the XNUMXth generation iPad offer a more angular body with rounded edges. This means that the XNUMXth generation iPad is currently the last model that hasn't received a redesign. iPad Pro got it a few years ago, iPad Air last year and iPad mini then a few days ago, at this year's September Apple KeynoteThere were no changes in the case of Touch ID, which is still located at the bottom of the front. At the top is the front camera – here you can see huge changes, which we will show in one of the following paragraphs. Both iPads also use Lightning konewhich, on the back we find the camera, which in both cases is aligned with the body and does not protrude.
If you expect that there have been any changes in the display area, then unfortunately I will have to disappoint you. The changes are really minismall and more of a software nature. Both the ninth-generation iPad and the eighth-generation iPad offer a 10.2″ Retina a display that has a resolution of 2160 x 1620 pixels, which gives a fineness of 264 pixels per inch. MaxThe maximum typical brightness is 500 nits, there is oleophobic protection against smudges and support Apple Pencil 1st generation. iPad (9th generation) also offers sRGB support and True Tone.
Camera
The rear camera is exactly the same as the display – it is exactly the same for both generations. This means 8 Mpx resolution, f/2.4 aperture, up to 5x digital zoom and HDR for photos. MaxThe minimum quality of recorded video is 1080p at 30 FPS, slow-motion video can be recorded in 720p resolution at 120 FPS. There is also support for 3x zoom when recording or time-lapse with stabilization.

Huge changes can be seen in the front camera – it is even better than the rear camera on the ninth-generation iPad. So on the front of the iPad (9th generation) you will find ultra-wide-angle camera with a resolution of 12 megapixels and an aperture number of f/2.4, while the iPad (8th generation) offers a FaceTime HD camera with a resolution of 1.2 megapixels (we did not overwrite the decimal point) and an aperture number of f/2.4. The iPad (9th generation) will also offer 2x zoom, centering of the frame (Center Stage), and extended dynamic range for video at up to 30 FPS. Together, the two models offer Retina Flash, HDR for photos, and cinematic video stabilization. The iPad (9th generation) can record video with the front camera at up to 1080p at 60 FPS, compared to 720p on the previous generation.
Colors and storage
Whichever iPad you choose, you'll still need to choose a color and storage. The 9th generation iPad comes in silver and space gray, while the 9th generation comes in silver, space gray, and gold. The 64th generation iPad starts at XNUMXGB of storage, with XNUMXGB and XNUMXGB of storage available. varianta 256 GB. In contrast, the iPad (8th generation) storage starts at 32 GB, with an additional 128 GB available variaIt should be noted that the introductory prices have remained completely the same, even across the increase in storage in the ninth generation. So we are talking about 9 CZK for Wi-Fi 990 GB, 64 CZK for Wi-Fi 13 GB, 990 CZK for Wi-Fi + Cellular 256 GB and 13 CZK for Wi-Fi + Cellular 490 GB.
