Localizer review Apple Airtag is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated reviews of the first half of 2021. The wait for this new release was uncomfortably long, which is why the expectations associated with it are extremely high. They managed AppDoes it fully fulfill its purpose, or does its hot new product still have shortcomings? You will find the answers to this and perhaps all other questions that might interest you in the following lines.
Packaging, processing and design
Accessories with everything. That's exactly how the packaging could be described without any exaggeration. AirTags. At first glance, you might not realize it, but AirTags are packaged exactly the same as leather covers for iPhones, straps for Apple Watch or accessories for these localizers, which is somewhat interesting. NestIt often happens that accessories enjoy such a big moment of fame at some of the Keynotes Applu. However, I do not mean to say that you should AirThey didn't deserve the tags, quite the opposite. What I'm trying to say is that after a few days of testing it seems almost unreal that this product Apple miniAt least in terms of packaging (and actually price) it compares to stupid covers or straps. By the way, I believe that after reading this review you will agree with my reasoning. If you are interested in details about the packaging, you can read them in the unboxing below.

Processing AirTagu is literally first class. That it is at AppOf course, I know this from habit, but on the other hand, I hear more and more often from people around me that the premium quality has recently been limited to more expensive products and the cheaper ones are being ignored, as the saying goes. But nothing like that at AirDon't expect a tag. In terms of workmanship, it is perfect in every way, and the same can be said about its design.
Minia malistic token or, if you prefer, a lens combined from bright white plastic and polished steel decorated with a logo Applu and the obligatory inscriptions Designed in California, Assembled in China AirIt just suits the Tag. To be honest, it suits me so much that I can imagine wearing a similar thing on my keys, even just as a pendant without any smart features. In terms of appearance, I AirThe tag simply looks incredibly cool, but at the same time it's a very discreet and elegant accessory that you won't have to be ashamed of, even on more expensive backpacks or handbags, when combined with a quality key chain or lanyard.
However, shiny steel combined with shiny plastic brings with it the classic inconvenience of extremely easy smudges, fingerprints and all sorts of dirt. So accept the fact that so clean AirThe Tag will probably never be the same as it was when it was first unpacked from the classic plastic film, and if you are willing to put in the effort, you will have many nice moments with a polishing cloth. However, dirt is ultimately the least of the inconveniences that can (and probably will) affect the design of your AirTag sign.
How could you already be in one from our previous articles read, unfortunately it is not at all difficult to scratch it. The polished steel back is really susceptible to scratches and you will probably only be able to avoid them if you AirCarry the tag in a case that will protect it from all sides, or carry it in a backpack or handbag completely isolated from the surroundings. In addition to steel, it is extremely easy to scratch the logo Applu and the rest of the printing on them – you can even do it with your fingernail if you run over them. These elements are not engraved on the back or anything like that, but are just “printed” on them, similar to the apples on the iPod shuffle clip. If you remember it, then you will certainly agree with me that the apple on it was very easy to scratch. However, there is nothing you can do – especially with a product that costs 890 CZK, which is relatively Appvery low price.
Pairing with iPhonem
It is clear to all of us that it is AirTag exactly that "stupid" that every fan would love to make happy Applu. It is beautiful, offers a variety of uses and, most importantly, is cheap, which makes it a must-have item in the eyes of many people. And the expected extremely wide group of apple lovers who could AirTagu reach, Apple perfectly adapted its pairing with iPhonem, which absolutely anyone can handle. All you need to do is own iPhone with the operating system iOS 14.5 and you've won. After unpacking, it AirTagu will take care of everything important, just like headphones, for example. AirPods. So it will just be unpacked for you AirAttach the tag to your iPhone and then “click through” its initial settings, where you can choose, for example, what object it will track, which will then cause an icon to appear in the Find My app. And that’s basically it. Once you’ve completed the setup process, AirThe tag is fully ready for operation and the fun begins.
What is it like? AirTag in everyday life
As you may have noticed several times in our magazine in the past few days, testing AirI tagged along with a colleague. RomanWe actually put it on to see what it can be used for. For example, we have tested car tracking, people whether Bluetooth range test of the "mother" iPhone – Bluetooth is the one AirTag to communicate with Apple uses devices. If you are interested in any of these tests in more detail, you can access them by clicking on the phrases above. In the following lines, however, I would like to partially return to all the tests, albeit rather comprehensively. And we will start perhaps rather strangely.
To be honest, I'm actually a bit disappointed that Apple came with a locator AirTag only this year, although there has been speculation about it since 2019. The undeniable fact is that it has the most comprehensive localization network in the world at its disposal, which is also relatively simple in terms of functionality to incorporate similar accessories. Thanks to its complexity, it also offers huge advantages over the competition in the form of its density and the associated timeliness, but also almost perfect integration into systems Applu. By the way, this is where I personally enjoy AirI probably tag the most, because I'm not a fan of third-party apps. If you're wondering why I'm writing "almost perfect", it's because of the absence widgeton the iPhone home screen, thanks to which I could have a location AirThe tag is always in sight. This way I can track it "only" when I have the Find app running.
It is necessary to understand it
Considering all these things, one would almost like to say that Apple in short, during creation AirThe Tag couldn't miss a beat, which it more or less succeeded in. Its locator works really well and does almost everything you would expect from it. So if you attach it to your keys or backpack and, God forbid, you lose one of these items in a place where people move around, there is a huge opportunity thanks to the Find network, which practically all newer products with current OSes are "involved" in.ance, that you will find the lost thing. To someone with a “stranger” iPhonem will be enough to pass by your AirA tag that logs into the Find network through it and you will immediately see it at that moment. Of course, we can't talk about tracking movement AirTag in real time, because you would hardly find such "apple" infested places in the world, but we can definitely talk about updating the location after a few minutes just thanks to "foreign" iPhones, which is absolutely great.
The same can be said about tracking cars or animals – it always depends on how many apple pickers your AirTag will meet and how many it will be able to connect to and make itself known. Because of this, I am not able to tell you whether its location will be updated in Find My after five minutes, half an hour, or maybe half a day. If you lose something with AirTag in a busy square in a non-coronavirus era (and we will not take into account the theft of the item and its disposal AirTag), we are talking about an update in a matter of minutes. However, if you AirFor example, they used the tag to track a car, and it was driving along roads where it would not have encountered a single living thing, its last location would be AirTagu to speak like this maxbasically about where he said goodbye to the Bluetooth of his “parent” iPhone. And that's exactly how I think it's necessary AirPerceive tags as a very interesting addition and to some extent a security measure, but definitely not as 100% the certainty of always having the current position.
He's smarter than you (maybe) think
What really bothers me AirWhat caught my attention about Tag is its anti-tracking system, which – as its name suggests – prevents anyone from being tracked through it. I admit that even after more than a week of testing, I don't dare to claim that I have completely understood it and therefore know exactly how it behaves. However, what I can say for sure is that it is practically impossible to track people with it. If you want to track a person who is a Apple user and hide your phone somewhere, AirTag, his iPhone se it will learn about it practically immediately and will immediately start acting accordingly. So don't count on it sending you the location of its owner - it will do that maxat least once at the beginning of the viewing and that's it.
So, in order to be able to see the location of the person being tracked in the Find app, your “victim” needs to meet as many other apple lovers as possible along the way and AirTag used to communicate with servers Applu their device. But from my own experience I can say that even this is not a guarantee of full functionality. When I tested exactly this, despite my “victim” meeting a number of apple lovers and her movement around the city, in which Apple products occurred, I was able to position AirThe tag can be seen about once every hour to an hour and a half, which is of course quite poor for location tracking purposes.
In addition to disabling tracking, iPhone It notifies its owner that he has been monitored for a certain period of time, or after he arrives at a place he often visits (in my case, it was home), that he has been monitored since that hour. AirUser tag with Apple ID xxx and at the same time it will draw on the map how AirThe tag recorded his location, which allows him to be more careful. If there is no notification on your iPhone's display nestachilo, AirAfter three days of tracking you – and thus de facto disconnection from its owner's Bluetooth – the tag beeps for about 15 seconds and then goes silent again. It then repeats this over and over again after a few hours. I haven't really managed to get the locator to beep after disconnection in any other way, so I don't think there should be any risk that it will beep somewhere for no reason. The beeping will probably always give the green light to suspicion of tracking.
What is quite interesting is that, along with the warning about possible tracking AirTag advice iPhone the victim and how to stop the tracking. It redirects them to the deactivation instructions, which consist of removing the AirTag the battery and thus put it out of service. From the victim's position, this is of course a relatively comfortable solution that anyone can handle. But if I were the owner of a stolen car in which the thief accidentally AirTag finds it, it's just not much. But I understand that right here Apple he didn't have much of a choice.
If you're wondering how the anti-tracking system is solved for Android owners who don't have anything to worry about, the answer is simple - basically the same, but with the difference that the whole system relies on even fewer things. It lacks the victim's phone, which would alert her to the fact that she is being watched, but at the same time would also serve to reveal her location. Here, too, we cannot talk about the possibility of simple tracking, as it would be completely dependent on meeting apple growers, which can only be relied on in certain places and, as a result, they probably do not work ideally either. After all, that's exactly why Apple discourages the surveillance of individuals and says in one of its supporting documents that it is AirThe tag is quite inappropriate due to the timeliness of the location.
Super gadgets, but also incomprehensible missteps
AirI personally wouldn't be afraid to describe the Tag as a two-faced product, which you might have noticed from the previous lines. It's usable in some places, not in others. It works great in some places, but it can't be counted on in others. But it hides a lot more similar things. In addition to the absolutely great integration into the system and especially into the Find application, I consider its big plus to be a user-replaceable flashlight, a precise search function using the U1 chip, which is both useful and fun, but also a very loud speaker, which I honestly didn't expect for such a small product.
Praising the IP67 waterproofness is probably quite unnecessary, considering the type of product in question, as it is more or less a given. I must also evaluate the possibility of AirA tag marked as lost can “read” the contact information of its owner both via iPhone, so Android. Sure, Apple is probably quite naive in this regard, because he obviously believes in a harmonious world and people's desire to do good deeds and return found bags, on which AirThe tag will beep when activated, but don't take it away from it.
But the seemingly perfect product also has its flaws, and they are pretty damn big. Personally, I absolutely don't understand, for example, that you can't just AirTag pair for two Apple ID or at least share his location in some way to Find Someone Else. After all, sharing things is quite common in families and I think it would certainly not be bad if, for example, not only dad but also mom and children could have an overview of where the car keys are. This thing is all the more incomprehensible to me considering that, for example, digital car keys Apple allows sharing, and this is of a slightly different caliber.
Another thing that bothers me (and frankly, even Apple Watch disconnected from the iPhone) is the absence of any notification – even a silly haptic one – after the AirThe tag will disconnect from the Bluetooth of the “parent” iPhone. It is nice that this locator will tell you where you lost or left the item, but it would be nice if it would warn you about this problem in advance via a notification and thanks to that you would not have to search for the location at all. After all, seeing, for example, after a walk in the forest in Find the last location of your keys 10 kilometers from you and not updated for three hours is not much.
A similar setting would improve usability AirTag incredibly developed, as is the case with many competing – and often significantly cheaper – locators. Notifications for disconnection from Bluetooth could be combined with the creation of certain safe zones in which disconnection will not be a problem, and so on, which is a flaw in its own way, but smart usability AirIt would simply move the Tag forward. However, since it runs firmware, I'm kind of hoping that adding similar features via software update wouldn't be that difficult in the future. In the gallery next to this paragraph, you can see, for example, how the notification for disconnecting the Bluetooth connection of the locator from the "parent" phone is handled by the locator FIXED Smile, which can now be found for just under two hundred. Despite its low price, it has an advantage in this regard, which is AirTagu just freezes.

Summary
Apple AirAfter a week of testing, I would rate the Tag as a really great gadget with a wide range of uses, which should not be missing from the equipment of Apple fans. It is at a great price, there is not much to criticize in terms of functionality, it will beautify your keys or bag excellently and the few things in which it is not 100% perfect are not such disasters in the end, although of course their absence would be damned pleasing. So if your AirIf you still don't have the tag at home, don't be afraid to buy it. It's another nice piece to the puzzle called the world. Appyou.
I have a Fixed Motion locator at home and it's great, their app is great.
The only thing Fixed doesn't have is notifications from another phone where it is currently located, that's what Apple has AirTag on top, but otherwise, Fixed is better in my opinion.. That's my opinion as a Fixed user (I've had it for about 1 year)
It would be great to send Airtag as an object in Geocaching. 🤔 Its location would look nice on a map.
As far as I know, many Fixed users who have the notification when BT connection is lost write in the discussions that the function is unusable due to frequent BT connection loss for no reason. Check out the discussion at Alza.CZ under the product, where even the guys from Fixed admit it.
