OneThe spread of COVID-19 is unfortunately still a hot topic. There are a number of ongoing studies and research into its spread – one of the latest recently showed that the virus can survive on smartphone surfaces for up to a month. Experts from Australia’s National Science Agency have said that, depending on the type of surface, the new coronavirus can survive for up to twenty-eight days.

The experiments were carried out at the Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness (ACDP) in Geelong, Victoria, and similar research by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) confirmed that the virus thrives better at lower temperatures. ProThe study also showed that the new coronavirus survives more easily on smooth surfaces, such as glass or stainless steel, and can survive in airborne particles for more than three hours. The length of time the virus was able to survive decreased as the temperature increased during the experiment - survival was significantly shorter at 30° C and 40° C than at lower temperatures. The study was conducted in the dark, in order to eliminate the effects of ultraviolet radiation. According to experts, this has the ability to quickly deactivate not only the new type of coronavirus.
Scientists have concluded that the SARS-CoV-2 virus remains infectious for a significantly longer period than usual. The results of the study will be used to improve procedures for preventing the spread oneCOVID-19. Dr. Debbie Eagles, deputy director of the ACDP, who has worked on testing a potential coronavirus vaccine, said the study also demonstrates the high need for protection from infection, such as thorough and long-term hand washing in warm water. The virus is more resistant at temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius and can survive on smooth surfaces for up to twenty-eight days. Debbie Eagles also offered a comparison in her statement with the Influenza A virus, which can survive on smooth surfaces for about seventeen days under similar conditions.
