At the beginning of last year, after a long wait, weoneThe first Czech banks started supporting the expected payment method Apple Pay, which pleased the wide community of apple lovers. Since then, we can only make do with iPhonem or Apple Watch and the transaction itself should be faster and more secure. Although this is a popular payment method, Apple is constantly trying to improve it.

Currently the service uses NFC chip in the device, which could change in the future. According to various sources, the Californian giant should consider using QR codes. Something similar was confirmed by the leak of the operating system code iOS 14 already in July of this year. The code indicated that it would Apple Pay could come up with something called Code Payment (payment by code) and this is exactly what could refer to the aforementioned QR codes. The user would simply have to scan the code at the checkout, which would open the application Wallet stated that the transaction was to take place through the payment method servers Apple Pay.

This invention was also confirmed by a patent with the name Effecting payments using optical coupling i.e. making payments more efficient with the help of optical connection. The document itself describes the entire process that should ensure a more secure transaction where there is no direct communication between the user's device and the seller's system. Apple In this regard, he argues that Bluetooth and NFC can potentially pose a risk of leakage due to the active transmission of user data. In addition, not all retailers accept contactless payment methods, which the new system could remedy.

The patent's system works by having the device's camera scan and decode the optical code. This could carry information about a specific number that the user's device would use for the payment itself. The accounting would again be taken care of by the given system, which would be able to recognize individual orders and assign the appropriate payments to them. Subsequently, the user would only confirm the given transaction on the display, the payment would take place and the system would immediately inform the seller about the successful or unsuccessful payment.

Since the entire transaction would be handled by a kind of billing system, we would thus gain another layer of anonymity – the seller would only know whether the given order was paid for, but would have absolutely no information about the given person. Such a layer of privacy is probably directly required. The patent itself describes the method of paying for prescription drugs.

In addition, the list of claims includes information on drug prescribing, anonymization of the prescriber and the use of pharmacy systems. Although the mentioned claims talk about the use of the system in the purchase of drugs, its use could also be extended to general matters. The patent was already registered in 2016, so it is not yet certain whether we will ever see its implementation. The Californian giant often registers one patent after another, many of which never see the light of day.
