The Czech application Ventusky now displays a forecast of the development of radar images for 90 minutes. Thanks to this, the forecast of the development of storms will be more accurate. At the moment, the data from the radars on Ventusky only took up the current state of precipitation. However, it is much more important to have a forecast of their development. On the contrary, numerical models are used for this. They are, however, updated only once every few hours and do not allow for an accurate forecast, for example, of storms that form within a few tens of minutes. In the Ventusky application, users can now view a simulation of the development of radar images for 90 minutes and follow the expected progress of storms, for example. The simulation is updated every 10 minutes and is thus much more accurate than data from numerical models. The 90-minute period is crucial for people, for example, to find a safe place before an approaching storm or to protect their property from approaching hail.
The feeling temperature forecast displayed by the application will also be useful for the next heat wave. Feeling temperature describes the perception of temperature by the human organism. It takes into account not only the air temperature itself, but also the influence of solar radiation, cloud cover, wind and air humidity. On Thursday, for example, according to current assumptions, the temperature will reach up to 40 °C!
The goal of the Ventusky app is to offer highly accurate weather data. Visitors get access to data that only a few years ago meteorologists worked with.
