Mac sales stagnated in the second quarter of this year compared to the previous quarter, according to new estimates from the company Gartner Research. Apple sold 2 million Macs worldwide in Q2017 4,24, down 2% from Q2016 4,26 when 0,4 million Macs were sold. Although sales decreased slightly year-on-year, the market share of the Cupertino company increased. Apple it holds a 2% market share in Q2017 6,9, while it held a 2% share in Q2016 6,7. Apple is estimated to be the fourth largest computer supplier in the world.
HP and Dell are at the top, globally the largest PC vendors that saw PC sales grow during Q2 2017. HP sold 12,7 million PCs and holds a 10,8% market share (up 3,3%) and Dell sold 9,6 million PCs and holds a 15,6% share (up 1,4%). Lenovo took second place despite a decline in sales. In Q2 2016 the company sold 13,3 million computers and in Q2 2017 it sold 12,2 million. Lenovo holds a 19,9% market share (up 8,4%).
The Asus and Acer brands finished in fifth and sixth place in global PC sales, seeing a significant drop in sales. Asus sold 2 million PCs in Q2017 4 (2 million in Q2016 4,5) and Acer sold 3,9 million (2 million in Q2016 4,4).
According to Gartner, 2 million PCs were sold worldwide in Q2017 61,1, down 2% from Q2016 4,3.
A total of 14 million PCs were sold in the US, down 2% from Q2016 5,7. Apple is the fourth-largest PC vendor in the US, selling about 1,7 million Macs, down from 2 million Macs in Q2016 1,83. In the US, the California-based giant holds an 11,8% market share. Revenue AppSales in the US fell by 9,6% compared to Q2 2016. Lenovo and Asus also saw significant declines. Lenovo's sales fell by 16,3% and Asus's by 40,7%.

IDC also released its PC sales estimates, the numbers of which are slightly different. IDC estimates that Apple sold 2 million Macs during Q2017 4,3, up 2% from Q2016 1,7. According to IDC, 60,5 million PCs were sold worldwide, down 3,3% year-on-year. Like Gartner, IDC estimates that Apple is the fourth largest computer supplier after HP, Lenovo and Dell.
Data from Gartner and IDC are estimates only, so reality may vary, sometimes the actual numbers are dramatically different, other times less so. Last year, for example, Gartner estimated that 4,56 million Macs were sold in Q2 2016, but it was actually 4,26 million.
