According to official sources, Sony and its PlayStation division are working on a game emulator that will allow owners of the now-defunct fourth version of the game console to play old games created for the PlayStation 2. The first emulated games are already quietly being sold on PlayStation Store.
Although Sony hasn't commented on the details, they confirmed the development of an emulator running in the background on the PS4 in an email to Wired. The three old titles are included as a bonus with Star Wars: Battlefront. They are Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, according to the company. Eurogamer it shouldn't be about code porting, but software emulation.
We have already seen emulators running on a number of devices including mobile phones with iOS and Android. Since current mobile devices have enough computing power to handle games from old consoles with ease, it is not visually beautiful. Let's remember the games from PS1 where even FIFA looked like a project of Minecraft players at the time. However, this may not be the case with the PS4 emulator. Since it is created by the manufacturer Sony itself, it is quite possible that some of the ancient games will have their graphics optimized and will adapt to the needs of players who simply cannot enjoy it as much without a proper resolution.
