China is such a special country. On the one hand, the products of capitalist companies from all over the world are manufactured and sold there, but on the other hand, the communist regime still rules here, and with it, censorship. And censorship is the reason why sa Apple decided to withdraw the News service from the country, because users simply do not have access to all the news. Such a curiosity was noticed by hlanve people who came to China from the USA. Once they entered Chinese soil and connected to a carrier there, some of the content that users had downloaded to their devices for offline reading disappeared from the News app. Precisely because the government dictates what people should read and Apple has practically noancIn response, the company decided to simply shut down the News service in China.
The company confirmed this for New York Times, saying that it is virtually impossible for foreign companies to fight against strict rules on media and free speech on the Internet in mainland China. But now, instead of deleting the content from your devices, a message will simply appear "Failed to update content. The News app is not supported in your current region." And because China is Apple a very important market, the company decided to retreat rather than end up like Google, which was kicked out of the country after its servers withstood an attack by state hackers (you read that right).
