Recently, processor manufacturers have been competing to see which of them will release the most powerful, most economical or most core chipset. It often happens that such chipsets start to overheat quickly, which was also the case with the latest processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 810. It was the overheating problem that caused this mobile heart not to appear in Samsung Galaxy S6 to Galaxy S6 Edge. As technology continues to advance, we can soon see the introduction of 10-core processors into mobile devices.
And MediaTek is said to be working on a chipset with such a number of cores. It should be a powerful processor labeled MT6797, which some of you will recognize as Helio X20. Donelong ago it was not known exactly whether this processor was being worked on at all, but today it is already clear. The Fudzilla.com portal has published very interesting information regarding this particular chip. It should be composed of three parts - clusters - one of which should have two and the other two should have 4 logical cores each. It should thus be the first ever three-cluster conventional processor that will be produced for mobile devices. The first part of this chipset should have two 64-bit ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 2,5 GHz and should be the most powerful. The remaining two parts will have economical Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 2,0 GHz and 1,4 GHz respectively. It will be the first ever mobile processor that does not use the concept of big.Little s maximally two clusters and will replace it with a three-cluster concept called huge.Medium.TINY.
And how will this processor actually work? At full load it will use all 10 cores. If the phone is only half used, the two most powerful cores will be active, along with the part that reaches a frequency of 2,0 GHz. Well, if the phone is in the room, it will have to make do with only cores with a frequency of 1,4 GHz, which will be the most energy efficient. However, the energy efficiency of this processor will also depend on the production process used by MediaTek. The 20nm manufacturing technology from TSMC is rumored, but the 14nm process used by Samsung is also said to be in the game. The biggest question mark still hangs over the team, what will be the graphics used in this chipset. There are several options to choose from. The most likely seems to be the novelty that was presented by ARM alongside the Cortex-A72 cores called Mali-T880. In addition to the Mali-T880, the second biggest candidate is the GCN graphics (Graphics Core Next) from the manufacturer AMD.
