Debates about Apple TV and its application in our conditions. Since I have owned this device for more than a year, I have some experience, including a comparison with the first generation model from 2007. In this post, I would like to show with the attached video that ATV 2G is already able to play content from our iDevices, including Czech subtitles with the correct mutation identifier and correct font display. In addition, using AirPlay over Apple TV We can listen to 2Gchat Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound via a connected sound system. The sample being played is played from an iPad 2 with iOS-5 system video player. Use the remote control to Apple TV 2G we can control this video or choose Czech subtitles in it. This article is not an instruction that we will play "files downloaded somewhere", but a statement that today without any new updates it is capable of Apple TV 2G to work properly with Czech subtitles. So we can only hope that Apple iTunes Store will eventually offer us films where we can exploit this fact.
I have it set up similarly and completely satisfied. All the videos have been converted and added to the iTunes library, so they can be accessed from all the devices we have at home.
How are those subtitles added to the video? Thanks.
I have been using Elgato Turbo H.264 and the newer H.264HD with HW converter for years. On Mac AppStore je varianta only SW without HW dongle. HD support up to 1080p, export from FCP7, joining AVCHD clips from the camera and now also integration of subtitles and AC3 audio.

Great information, you are the first again!
So this can convert classic avi/mkv to mp4 with subtitles? How about converting 2 hours of movie without hw dongle? Thanks
2 Velsak: I only convert MPEG 1080i from DVB-S that I record from HBO HD to M4V-720P with the addition of SRT subtitles with a timeline, if there are any. And then AVCHD from Canon cameras. I also tried AVI or WMV (but without subtitles) – I don't know if they might not be in the system yet Flip4Mac WMV, which I usually have in my system. For testing, I recommend trying the TRIAL: link directly from Elgat:

(time to convert 1080i HD movie 5GB to 720P 2,5GB - 2 hours movie in about 1,5 hours with dongle)
I have a question: does it also work with the first generation iPad? So that I don't buy unnecessarily Apple TVThanks.
2 George: AirPlay too AirView works from iOS 4.3 also on iPad 1. Screen mirroring only AirPlay goes with iOS 5 on ǐPhone 4S or iPad 2.
hello - I made JB on ATV2 and put software from firecore.com. They have a well-tuned media player - try it and you'll see that it looks like a classic as if you were renting a movie from itunes :) subtitles go :) I have movies on a Time Capsule.
I use HandBrake. I manage to convert a 1080p movie in about 40 minutes and add subtitles in Subler. If the movie is in divx (approx. 700mb), I have it preconverted in 10-15 minutes. I wrote instructions on how to do it about a year ago for superapple.
