Following the release of the long-awaited Extended Look yesterday, more interesting information is starting to emerge about GTA 6, and one of them is probably not very pleasing to console players. According to current statements, Rockstar is still unable to confirm that Grand Theft Auto VI will offer a 60 FPS mode at launch. During development, the game currently runs at 30 FPS on consoles, and it is uncertain whether this will change by the November release. The information was provided by Rob Nelson, head of development at Rockstar North, during a visit to the studio by some game creators. According to his statement, the game currently runs at 30 FPS on consoles, while Rockstar is still deciding whether it will be possible to offer 60 FPS at launch or later.

Rockstar isn't promising 60 FPS yet
So, while Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA 6 will be locked to 30 FPS at release, it has confirmed that during the current development phase, the game is running at 30 FPS on consoles and the team does not yet know if it will be possible to create a 60 FPS mode. So it cannot be said that 30 FPS is definitely confirmed for launch. On the other hand, it is a fairly strong indication of what we can expect. Moreover, according to the available information, the developer has not been able to confirm a specific resolution or other technical parameters. Rockstar is thus leaving the door open to more possibilities for now. However, 30 FPS at release is a very likely version.
Rockstar has a pretty clear history in this regard. GTA V also ran at 30 FPS on consoles when it was originally released, although it made sense here given their performance. It was only later versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S that brought a 60 FPS mode, while nextThe 60 FPS version was released by the developers long after it hit the market next-gen consoles. So there's clearly no rush in this direction.
A similar situation occurred with Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar never added an official 60FPS mode for modern consoles either. It is therefore quite possible that a similar scenario awaits GTA 6. Rockstar may prioritize it upon release maximal graphics quality and world complexity before a higher frame rate and 60 FPS can be offered later.
ProCan 60 FPS be a problem?
If you're wondering why we might wait for a higher frame rate, the answer is simple. GTA 6 is expected to be extremely demanding, especially on the processor. It's not just about rendering graphics, but also the huge number of characters, traffic, physics, AI and other systems that the console has to constantly simulate.
And this is where the difference between 30 and 60 FPS is huge. At 60 FPS, the console has to process practically twice as many frames per second. If CPU performance is the problem, it may not be possible to simply reduce the graphics quality.
And what? PS5 Pro?
Of course, the question of PlayStation 5 is interesting ProA more powerful GPU could theoretically help with the graphics, but the processor is still the main limitation according to available information. Therefore, Rockstar has not yet said whether it will PS5 Pro able to offer something extra. If 60 FPS was not possible even on PS5 Pro, one possible path could be a mode around 40 FPS designed for TVs with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. However, Rockstar has not confirmed anything like this yet.
The PC version may be a completely different story
The good news for PC gamers is that the potential 30FPS limit will of course not automatically apply to the PC version. However, it has not been announced yet and, as with previous Rockstar games, it will probably arrive later. GTA 6 is due out on November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. So let's be surprised what the developers will manage to create in the next three months or so, but given that 60 FPS is a bit of a blur, this is something that cannot be completely counted on, because if it could, the developers would definitely brag about it.
So, fine, I have a console for 20,000 and it still doesn't work for me, that's fine, they can't be blamed for that, that's clear... The Xbox X series has always seemed like a better choice than the PS 5 pro.
Even though it's old hardware, I thought it had more potential. Is it even playable at such a low FPS 🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐🧐
I saw it yesterday on Netflix, where it ran on a basic PS5 (I have Pro) and if it looks like this, I don't have the greatest problem with it.
It will definitely be playable, but 60 FPS would of course be better. I have an Xbox Series X and quite a few games on it are still at 30 FPS. For example, Mafia I: Definitive Edition only got 60FPS a few days ago and although it was playable at 30 FPS, you can tell the difference right away.
