Apple has a new generation of iMac ready for this year after a long time and it seems that we won't have to wait too long for it. Reporter Mark Gurman has come up with information that the company is preparing an updated 24″ iMac with the M6 chip, which should arrive before the end of this year. In addition to the significantly more powerful chip, it also has Apple also prepare new colors varianty.

Current iMac Apple introduced in October 2024 with the M4 chip and nothing has changed fundamentally since then. The novelty would be available after almost two yearsonebrought another hardware shift. Interestingly, Apple According to Gurman, this time he probably won't wait for the M7 or try to significantly overhaul the current generation. He'll simply take the current 24" design, install a new chip, and add a few new colors.

The biggest change will be the M6

The M6 chip will of course be the main reason why the new iMac will be interesting. Apple According to current information, it is supposed to skip the possible M5 generation and in the case of the desktop all-in-one computers to switch directly to M6. This is quite interesting considering that Apple Apparently, it is preparing a fairly extensive change to its Mac line this fall.

Of course, we don't know the specific parameters of the M6 iMac yet. But it is likely that the new chip will bring higher performance and better energy efficiency than the current M4. In the case of the iMac, performance is not the only reason why the novelty may be interesting. This is a computer designed primarily for users who want to have their entire desktop solved with one elegant device, so a further increase in performance is especially useful for more demanding work with photos, video or functions using AI.

Much more interesting for some interested parties may be the change in colors. The current iMac is available in seven shades - green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver. Apple is now preparing a new palette, but Gurman has not yet specified specific colors.

We'll wait for a big design revolution

So if you were expecting that Apple The new iMac will also come with a significantly redesigned design, you will probably have to wait a little longer. The new generation is supposed to be very similar in appearance to the current one and no major design changes are expected yet. But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

The current iMac is still one of the most beautiful computers ever made. Apple produces, and its design certainly doesn't look outdated. The bigger question is the display. Apple Although it is reportedly working on a 24″ iMac with an OLED panel, according to current information, it will not arrive for several years. So if you are thinking about buying an iMac right now, I might wait a while longer. Apple Although he hasn't given a date yet, according to Gurman, "all signs" indicate that the M6 iMac is close to launch and should go on sale before the end of this year.

And I must admit that I am quite interested in the new iMac in this year's Mac lineup. Not because it should bring any revolution, but because the combination of the M6 and the new colors can make the long-overlooked iMac a slightly more interesting choice. Especially if Apple will maintain the current price. On the other hand, I think that 24" diagonal is simply not enough and if he wants Apple to make a "hole in the world" with iMacs, it is necessary to add a lot in this regard. Personally, I am used to 32", so I would need an iMac miniat least in the original 27" variaWell, ideally even bigger.
