The PS6 price may approach $1000, according to the latest information. We will probably have to wait a while for the release of the PlayStation 6, but more and more information is already circulating about the upcoming console. The latest estimates will not please gamers who hoped that Sony would keep the price of the new generation at a similar level to the PlayStation 5. According to well-known hardware insider Kepler_L2, it is becoming increasingly likely that the price of the PS6 may approach $1,000. A few months ago, the most common speculation was about a price of around $699. However, the situation on the semiconductor market has changed significantly in the meantime, and production costs are growing rapidly, according to available information. And this may be one of the biggest problems for Sony in the entire new generation.

The biggest problem is supposed to be modern memory chips and fast SSD storage. Semiconductor manufacturers are currently facing huge demand from companies building data centers for artificial intelligence. AI is significantly increasing the pressure on memory and storage supplies, which is gradually reflected in the prices of practically all powerful devices. According to current estimates, the production costs of the PlayStation 6 should have increased by more than $200 compared to the original calculations. While earlier estimates counted on hardware for approximately $760, there is now talk that the bill of materials itself may approach the $1,000 mark. And that's before taking into account marketing, distribution, taxes, or any merchant margins.

PlayStation 6 is expected to be significantly more powerful than PS5

However, a more expensive console should not be more expensive just because of the market situation. According to previous leaks, Sony is preparing very powerful hardware that should bring one of the biggest generational leaps in PlayStation history. For example, there is speculation about the use of approximately 30 GB of GDDR7 memory, fast 1TB SSD storage and a new chip from AMD, which is often associated with the Orion SoC. Such a configuration should significantly help not only classic graphics performance, but also ray tracing, faster game loading and calculations associated with artificial intelligence. AI is expected to become one of the most important elements of game development in the coming years, whether it is character behavior, environment generation or more advanced physics.

At first glance, it might seem that the easiest solution is to delay the console release and wait for the prices of the component will drop. But that may not be so simple. If the development of the PlayStation 6 is already in an advanced stage, Sony cannot simply fundamentally change the hardware design without huge additional costs. Moreover, it is not certain that memory will actually be cheaper in the coming years. Some representatives of the semiconductor industry are already warning that the high demand for memory chips may last for several more years due to the artificial intelligence boom. Paradoxically, a delay would not reduce the price, but on the contrary increase it.

In this respect, the PlayStation 6 could find itself in a similar situation to the PlayStation 3. It was also very expensive when it was launched, due to, among other things, the Cell processor and Blu-ray drive. Sony had to accept high production costs at the time and gradually reduce the price only when production became cheaper. A similar scenario cannot be ruled out now. Sony may initially sell the PlayStation 6 with a very low margin, or even at a loss, and rely on revenue from games, PlayStation Plus subscriptions and the PlayStation digital store. StoreThe ecosystem is often more important to console manufacturers today than the profit from the hardware itself.

Developers already need a new generation

When will the PS6 come out? Another reason Sony may not want to delay the PS6 release for too long is pressure from developers. The PlayStation 5 is still a very capable console, but it will have been on the market for many years by the time the next generation is expected to be launched. Big AAA games are becoming more demanding, and developers are gradually hitting the limits of current hardware. The next generation could enable larger worlds, more sophisticated physics, better ray tracing, more stable frame rates, and more significant integration of artificial intelligence directly into games. If Sony were to wait too long, it could slow down the technological development of the entire console market. Just a few years ago, the price of $ 1,000 for a game console would have seemed almost unimaginable. But today's situation is different. Powerful gaming handhelds, premium graphics cards, and some compact gaming computers are already routinely reaching similar prices. If gamers demand top performance, fast storage, and modern technology, it has to be reflected somewhere. Pro However, this will be a very sensitive decision for Sony. PlayStation has always stood for a combination of high performance and a relatively affordable price. If the PS6 does indeed sell for around $1,000, it could change the way gamers think about the next generation of consoles.

It is important to add that Sony has not yet officially announced the price of the PlayStation 6. All current information is based on leaks, estimates, and cost analyses of the computer.onenty. Still, they make sense in the context of what is currently happening in the memory, SSD and semiconductor market in general. If the current trend does not change, the PlayStation 6 may be not only the most powerful, but also the most expensive console in the brand's history. And gamers will have to accept that the new generation of consoles may no longer cost as much as we were used to paying in the past.
