When Apple na WWDC 2026 featured tvOS 27, with most of the attention focused on a faster experience, improved controls, and new accessibility features. However, behind the scenes, there was one new feature that pleased audiophiles in particular. Apple namely toonebrings to Apple TV 4K Hi-Res Lossless audio support within the service Apple Music.

At first glance, this may seem like a detail that the average user won't even notice, but in the world of high-quality audio, it's a fairly significant step. Apple Music has been offering high-resolution songs up to 24-bit/192 kHz for several years, but Apple TV until now, it could only play standard Lossless quality up to 24-bit/48 kHz. In other words, part of the music service's potential remained unused on the TV platform. With tvOS 27, that changes. If you have a compatible audio setup, such as a high-quality AV receiver or external speakers connected to Apple TV 4K, you will be able to listenchat music in the highest quality, which Apple Music offers. Apple speaks directly about studiothe original sound quality, i.e. the form in which the music was originally recorded and processed in the studio.

Interestingly, the absence of Hi-Res Lossless was one of the long-criticized limits. Apple TVMany users didn't understand why a home entertainment device didn't support the same level of quality that could be achieved with an external DAC on an iPhone or Mac, for example. Community audio has been warning enthusiasts about this possibility for several years.

Of course, it should be added that not everyone will hear the difference. Most regular TVs or basic speakers will not use the potential of Hi-Res Lossless anyway. However, if you have a quality home theater or hi-fi setup, the difference compared to standard streaming can be noticeable, especially for well-recorded songs. Moreover, the new feature fits well into a broader strategy Applu. The company has been investing heavily in the music ecosystem in recent years. In addition to surround sound Dolby Atmos, services Apple Music Classical or functions Apple Music Sing now comes with another improvement aimed at more demanding listeners. Apple TV is thus once again approaching the role of a full-fledged multimedia center for the home.

Although Hi-Res Lossless is being talked about during keynote almost didn't speak, this new feature may be one of the most interesting reasons for some users to install tvOS 27. And if you are one of those people who suffer from high-quality sound, it is quite possible that this is a feature that you have been waiting for longer than most of the other new features of this year's system.
