Although the attention of the fan world Applu has been focusing in recent days and weeks mainly on MacBook Not just a cheap ticket to the world of Macs, there are other new computers that are definitely worth considering. Apple recently introduced another MacBooky Air M5 a Pro M5 Pro and M5 MaxAnd while the latter machines are the new definition of laptop performance and can be recommended to virtually anyone who is looking for maxmaximum possible performance in a compact body, MacBooky Air In my opinion, the M5 deserves to be "knocked on" a little more.

After all, this model line has enjoyed enormous popularity for many years, and each new model attracts attention simply because it makes some users think about upgrading. But it has MacBook Air Is it really worth switching to M5? This is what my review should answer MacBook Air M5, which after a few weeks of honest testing isonehere.
Appearance, display, battery life, charging, or everything as before
Honestly, testing a computer that hasn't changed its appearance for a good four generations (the current look came with the M2 model) is a bit of a challenge for me as a fan. Applu a bit painful. Not that I need a completely different looking computer every year, but miniI think that adding some new color to make the model series special is somewhat appropriate. However, despite the success of last year's sky blue model, we didn't get that here, which is quite a shame. As a result, I ended up with a dark blue model that you wouldn't recognize from the M2 generation at first glance.
Once again, a computer with a perfectly crafted aluminum body, a 13,9" display diagonal, a resolution of 2560 x 1664 pixels, a brightness of 500 nits, and support for the P3 gamut is available. In terms of dimensions, we are talking about a machine with a body of 1,13 x 30,41 x 21,5 cm and 1,23 kg, which makes it a truly compact device that you can easily carry in a backpack or larger handbag.
We would look in vain for improvements, for example, even for the webcam, which is still 12MPx with support Center Stage, or the sound, which is also made up of a system of four speakers this time. The port equipment, the keyboard and, perhaps a little surprising to me, not even the battery life have changed. According to the words, it still achieves Appup to 18 hours when streaming video, which is a value that MacBook Air has been offering it since 2020, when Apple introduced with the M1 chip as the first Apple Silicon solution.
I would actually expect the durability to be a little better considering that Apple With each generation of its chip, it boasts, among other things, how energy-efficient it is. Since the introduction of the chips Apple Silicon Moreover, it will be six years this year, so it is clear that they will Apple fundamentally moved, but in the case MacBooků Air Unfortunately, we only feel this in terms of performance so far. But I think that the target group MacBooků Air would perhaps rather welcome an extra hour of endurance than a constant increase in performance, because let's face it, Airy have never been seen as synonymous with high performance, but more as beautiful computers with good battery life. Of course, this is still true now, but for a bit too long.
There aren't many changes, but they are nice.
I could go on for a while about what has remained the same between generations or even over several generations, but that would make this review quite boring to read. However, I have to point out one more thing that has not changed in the Czech Republic, because on the contrary, it is a positive finding. While in the USA the new generation MacBooků Air increased in price from the basic 999 dollars to 1099 dollars, in the Czech Republic, thanks to the relatively strong crown, the price tag was kept at 29,990 CZK. And this despite the fact that Apple In the base model, it doubled the storage from 256GB to 512GB, making this computer a much more interesting choice. In addition to 512GB, it also offers 16GB of RAM, both of which were previously extras. But now you won't pay a penny for them, which is great because, in layman's terms, you get significantly more music for the same money.
And we'll stick with SSDs for a moment. One thing that may not seem like a big deal on paper, but plays a surprisingly big role in practice, is memory throughput, which is MacBooku Air with the M5 chip it increased to 153 GB/s, while last year's model with the M4 offered "only" 120 GB/s. In practice, this means that the chip can access more data in less time, which is exactly what determines how fast a device works today.
In everyday use, you'll notice this when multitasking, when you have multiple apps open at once and everything stays beautifully smooth, but it becomes even more noticeable when doing more demanding tasks, such as editing photos, editing videos, or working with larger files. And because Apple In its chips, it relies on shared memory for both the CPU and GPU, and the graphics also benefit from higher throughput, so not only the system response improves, but also application previews or video exports. So this is not a marketing number for the table, but a real shift that may not look dazzling at first glance, but will be even more pleasing in everyday use. In other words, it is the memory throughput combined with a faster chip that makes theonea positive result.
As for the aforementioned chip, MacBook Air can be configured with either the M5 chip version with a 10-core CPU and 8-core GPU, or for an additional 3000 CZK with the M5 chip with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU. I had both available for testing varianty, however, in short it can be said that higher varianta is logically better for working with graphics, where it is about 20% faster than the base. So if graphics are what you care about, then this extra cost is worth it.
But if, like me, you are primarilyancFor professional users who work mainly with text documents, web browsers, emails and sometimes just need to edit a few photos or create previews in Canva and similar applications, the basic model is literally a blessing for you. Its speed is really great thanks to the combination of higher memory bandwidth and a more powerful chip between generations, and if, like me, you are used to working "on multiple fronts at the same time", i.e. with a lot of different application windows running, between which you jump around, know that this model series was aimed at Apple straight into the black.
I normally use it for work. MacBook Air The M3, which I bought back in the unfortunate time when Apple It came with 8GB of RAM as standard. This RAM is enough for me, but if you get "excited" and run a lot of things at once, you can reach the limit. Until now, I thought that except for exceptional RAM usage, Air M3 pro perfectly adequate for my work. But when I swapped it out for the M5 model in recent days and started working on it the way I'm used to, I honestly nestI was surprised at how much of a difference I felt.
MacBook Air Although the M3 is not a bad machine on paper and its chip is still among the better ones, the 100 GB/s memory bandwidth can limit it. In other words, until you work on it every day like I do, you don't realize that you could get to some things faster, whether it's launching applications, multitasking, and so on. The combination of higher memory bandwidth with the M5 chip mentioned several times above is, however, in the new MacBooku Air you can feel it almost every time you click your mouse, because even just launching applications, opening a large number of photos in Preview, or even editing them in bulk by converting them to another format is noticeably faster. It certainly can't be said that we are talking about a "minute vs. second" difference in favor of MacBooku Air M5, but it's interesting to see that you can feel it even in trivial things.
If you are interested in performance tests, you can take a look at some benchmark measurements below. ProI also have it available. MacBook Pro with the M5 chip, I did the same tests on it for fun, so that I could compare it, taking into account that one computer has active cooling, while the other (Air) passive. You can also look at the performance comparison with MacBookem Air M4 and M3.
Newer standards will please
However, the novelty does not only revolve around the chip and memory. When you take a closer look at the technical specifications, you will suddenly find that it has also received newer wireless standards - specifically Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. We now have Wi-Fi 7 instead of 6E from the previous generation and Bluetooth 6 instead of 5.3. So if you have devices around you that also support these standards (for example, a modern Wi-Fi router), wireless communication should be faster and better overall. However, I would like to say that in normal operation, you actually don't really notice these improvements.ancand recognize it, because for this to be the case, a sufficiently fast internet connection must of course "flow" to the router, and so on.
Personally, I see these improvements more as preparation for a future in which these standards will be much more common and MacBook Air The M5 will therefore not be limited by anything in this regard and will therefore remain perfectly usable in the long term, which is great. Pro However, for most users, this will certainly not be an argument for switching.
Summary – Pro Who is he?
MacBook Air The M5 is a fantastic laptop that, thanks to its excellent performance, is profiled as a machine that can satisfy not only classic needsancprofessional users, but also those who in previous years preferred the basic Pro model. In terms of performance, this is a truly great piece, and you will probably be fascinated by how elegant the body is. Applu managed to hide this performance. Nevertheless, I somehow can't help but think that he will have it this year and by extension in future years Air as such quite difficult because he Apple created an extremely strong opponent in the form MacBookat NeoIt is of course significantly less powerful, does not have such a nice display, does not have such good battery life and lacks support for fast charging or MagSafe, but it also costs almost half of what you would pay for it. Apple charges for Air.
And frankly, a lot of users who were used to it until now Air, in my opinion, the target group is MacBookat Neo, because this machine is completely sufficient for them in terms of performance and generally all technical specifications, but so far there has been nothing similar on store shelves and therefore it was Air as a "cheap" laptop from Applu clear choice. But that is no longer the case and so I think that many users who now want to switch from older models Airs, they can ultimately try Neo at the expense of this model. Apple So he has somewhat of a whip for himself, but on the other hand, he has managed to expand his range of computers in terms of their specifications and performance to a much wider range than before, which has also changed his position a bit. MacBooku Air, which is no longer just a nice, cheapest laptop from Applu, but a new middle class offering a lot of performance in a nice body. And that's actually a pretty good starting position for the future for me.
I bought it, my first experience with a Mac and I am very satisfied with how fast it is and how it communicates with the tablet and phone.onem.
I had Macbook Pro from 2018 and this is my new replacement. It runs like clockwork
I have Air M4 and I am completely satisfied with it, Air It's a great machine and with the M5 or even the M4 it's great :)
