Photos of the iPhone 17 have begun to appear on social media in recent days Pro in the shade Cosmic Orange, which has reportedly turned into a pink or rose-gold color over time. At first glance, this seems like a bizarre flaw or even a new "chameleon" effect from Applu – however, the reality is much more prosaic and has (probably) to do with chemistry.

One Reddit user posted a picture of his iPhone 17 Pro, whose originally bright orange aluminum frame turned a light pink within a few weeks. Similar cases subsequently appeared on TikTok – the change mostly affected the edges of the phone and the area around the photomodule, i.e. the places where cleaning is most often done. Although these cases have attracted media attention, they are not a widespread problem, but rather isolated situations that have one common denominator – cleaning products containing hydrogen peroxide.
iPhone 17 frame Pro It is made of anodized aluminum, a metal with an artificially created protective layer. This ensures resistance to corrosion and uniform surface color. ProThe problem occurs when this layer comes into contact with peroxide or bleach cleaners. Hydrogen peroxide acts as a strong oxidizing agent that breaks down the protective film. The result can be fading, uneven coloration, or a dull surface – and this is probably what causes the orange hue to visually change to pink.
Apple on its official user support website, it explicitly warns against cleaning products with products containing hydrogen peroxide or bleach.
He recommends instead:
- use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth,
- avoid moisture entering the holes,
- and after disinfecting the device, dry it with a cloth dampened with water.
This way, both chemical damage and aesthetic changes to the surface are prevented.
If you already use a cleaning product, check the ingredients. Many products labeled as “disinfectant” or “all-purpose” contain hydrogen peroxide, even if it’s not obvious at first glance.
A suitable alternative is pure water, isopropyl alcohol (max. 70%) or official cleaning cloth from Appyou.

How do you dry something with a damp cloth? A iphone Isn't it waterproof, that the damp rag shouldn't get to the holes?
A similar thing happened to the previous iPhone. He massacred a friend in a similar way iPhone 13 during Covid, when he was constantly using disinfectant gel, but it also happens without it, more than once I saw floods of black anodized pulled to copper silver.
...maybe the right time has come to start selling iRoztok for cleaning iPhone 17... for only 2.879 CZK. Seriously now. Proa manufacturing defect. I know it's not nice to admit it, but on the other hand, some people might like it. For example, in blue it would be effective for me... like when jeans get frayed...
