On Thursday, June 26, a film from the production premiered in domestic cinemas. Apple TV+ with the relatively simple title F1, although previews had been running since the beginning of the week and the world premiere did not take place until Friday, June 27. We went to see the film in IMAXWe can immediately say: Go too.

I am a fan of the queen of motorsport and have been actively following her for some 17 years. Therefore, even though I subscribe Apple TV+, I didn't want to wait until Apple streamed the movie and went to the cinema to see it. Straight to the one that promised the greatest experience: IMAXu.
Official synopsis (Vertical Entertainment): Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), nicknamed the "wannabe world champion" of 1s FORMULA 1, was a promising racer whose career was ruined by a near-fatal accident. Thirty years later, when Sonny is working as a for-hire racer, he is approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), who is now the owner of a moribund FORMULA 1 team. Ruben convinces Sonny to return to FORMULA XNUMX, help his team win, and in doing so, save it. Sonny's new protégé is the impetuous rookie Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), who wants to go his own way. But as the engines roar, Sonny's past catches up with him and he discovers that his teammate is his fiercest competitor and that he cannot make the journey to redemption alone.
The plot description is actually self-explanatory, the only thing missing is a mention of the romantic relationship that Sonny will have with the designer of the APEX team, which is also visible in the trailer, so it is not a secret. The plot is not as complex as Rivals, and in terms of epicness it does not reach the level of Le Mans '66 (Ford v Ferrari) not even up to the ankles. But the fact that the story here is not inspired by any real fact is to blame. It should have been Top Gun on wheels, because of the director Joseph KosIn terms of footage, yes, in terms of story, you don't really care who actually wins the last race in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, at the Yas Marina Circuit, as long as it's from the "right" team.
So the storyline won't dazzle in any way, but as for the visuals, you'll be thrilled and that's the reason to go to the cinema to see the film. Whether IMAX, the usual one. Seeing F1 on the big screen is an experience if you are at least some fan of this sport (and hearing the sound and the pumped-up soundtrack). The footage is truly breathtaking, regardless of which driver it revolves around. The starts, accidents and pit stops are also incredibly entertaining. Everything is enhanced by the full license, i.e. real monoposts, tracks and drivers, who are probably all listed here (last year and the season before last), most of them also have their cameo (some bigger, some smaller), which also applies to the team bosses.
But the creators didn't really think about the format of the race weekend. There are no practices or qualifications, so Sonny races straight from the test track. And after reading the manual once, he can already control all the steering wheel mechanisms, which is also somewhat funny. It's so far removed from reality, not to mention the situation around the penalty points, when Sonny would probably not be allowed to race again. After all, there was no super license, so in the world of motorsport as we know it, Sonny wouldn't even be able to sit behind the wheel of an F1 car. But you can'tchat discourage, it's a movie, not a description of reality. If you want pure history and the biggest racing drama, watch the last race of the 2021 season. No screenwriter can beat that. And you get the footage, accidents and pit stops, only Brad Pitt is missing.
Because it's a production photo Apple TV, everyone here also uses his products. Everyone has iPhone, you probably can't even count the number of XDR displays. "Smaller" roles are on their hands Apple Watch, the "bigger" ones are those from IWC, which is the sponsor of the fictional APEX team itself. And the main character very blatantly and very often uses AirPods Max. But is it all worth the extra money on top of the subscription? Cinema gives you a different experience than television, so for us it is. V IMAXand even bigger. It's a great summer blockbuster, but you probably won't watch it a second time. Finally, one more warning: In the current heat, we recommend keeping hydrated. Even though the cinema was properly air-conditioned, after those two hours the air got very stuffy and the temperature rose significantly, to the point that one spectator had to be carried out of the hall because he collapsed.
