If you are looking for quality wireless headphones that won't cost you a fortune, you can choose one of the many mid-range models. And for years, the JBL brand has been one of those that can offer advanced features and very decent sound in this price range. This time I had the opportunity to try out the JBL Tune Beam 2. A model that impresses with adaptive noise cancellation, improved battery life and an application with smart features, such as Personi-Fi 3.0. Let's take a closer look at them.
Package contents
The JBL Tune Beam 2 headphones arrived in an elegantly designed box with a picture of the design and an overview of key features. In addition to the headphones themselves and the charging case, the package also includes an orange USB-C cable, a manual and two pairs of spare silicone ear tips. The contents of the package are rather standard, but in this price category it is quite enough. The correct size of the tips plays a big role, so it is nice to have a total of three to choose from. varianty (one pair is already on the headphones).
Technical Specifications
JBL Tune Beam 2 are true wireless Wireless) headphones with 10mm dynamic drivers based on JBL Pure Bass and JBL technology Spatial Sound. In practice, you have strong bass and a sufficiently pronounced surround effect, whether you are listening to music, podcasts or watching videos. The headphones offer Bluetooth version 5.3 (A2DP, AVRCP, HFP profiles), Frequency range 20 Hz to 20 kHz, Impedanci 16 ohms, 6 microphones (beamforming + internal microphones for noise cancellation), very decent battery life, which promises up to 12 hours of listening with headphones (without ANC), the charging case will provide another 3 full charges – up to 48 hours in total (when the device is turned off). ANC). With the power on ANC it's 10 hours + 30 hours from the case, so up to 40 hours in total.
You'll also be pleased with the IP54 resistance, meaning it's dust and splash-proof. Also worth mentioning is the multi-point connection, which allows you to easily switch the headphones between two devices - for example, if you're listening to music from your laptop and don't want to miss a call from your mobile phone.
Design
In terms of design, the JBL Tune Beam 2 does not deny the contemporary style of True Wireless earplugs with short "legs". The plastic design is quite ordinary, but everything seems well made. The body of the headphones is in white with shiny details and touch surfaces for controlling calls, skipping tracks or turning on ANC.
The case is compact, the surface is matte (the headphones are available in black, white and teal colors), so it almost does not attract fingerprints. On its front there is a JBL logo and three LEDs indicating the remaining battery capacity of the charging case. USB-C toonewhich is located at the bottom. As for the size, the case fits easily into a trouser pocket or a smaller pocket in a backpack. As with most earbuds, the key is how well they fit in your ears. JBL includes, as stated above, three sizes of eartips. During testing, I found that the headphones fit comfortably in the ear and did not slip during sports. Thanks to the IP54 certification, you don't have to worry about rain, sweat or dusty environments.
Application
As with other JBL models, the JBL Headph app is a great added value here.ones, available for Android and iOSThere you will find a wide range of features that will help you set up the headphones to your liking:
- Equalizer: Several preset modes plus the option to customize. Pro For more demanding users, a detailed equalizer is great because even small adjustments will immediately affect the sound performance. So be careful with the settings.
- Personi-Fi 3.0: Based on a short test of your hearing (and preferences), the app will prepare a profile for you that is designed to improve your overall music experience.
- Ambient Aware and TalkThru: These settings control how much you hear the world around you, which is useful in the city or when having a conversation.
- ANC: The app lets you switch between adaptive noise cancellation or manually adjusting the noise level. You can also switch between modes directly on the headphones.
- Control gestures: You can determine what happens when you tap the earbud (skip songs, call up the assistant, adjust the volume, etc.).
Pro For newbies, the app can be a bit overwhelming at first, but it's definitely worth going through. If you want to get the most out of your headphones maximum, you'll spend a few minutes there customizing the sound. You'll be surprised how much the sound can change with a small adjustment to the equalizer or with Personi-Fi. The application is in English. But it doesn't hurt anything.
Sound
The main trump card of these headphones, besides battery life, is their sound. Right out of the box, the JBL Tune Beam 2 sound above average for a mid-range headphone: clean mids, sufficiently clear highs, and pleasantly dynamic bass. I was satisfied with the sound straight out of the box (i.e. without any fiddling with the app), but as with other JBL models, the app is absolutely essential.
Once I turned up the bass a bit more in the equalizer and tried out Personi-Fi 3.0, the headphones came alive. It's surprising how thick and punchy the bass lines can be, without overwhelming the other bands. Pro For someone who loves electronic music or rap, this might be a hit. On the other hand, if you listen to rock or jazz, you might need to turn down the equalizer a bit to keep the sound balanced and not distorted.
Regarding adaptive noise cancellation (ANC), works rather averagely. In normal situations (cafe, street noise) it filters out roughly the most essential things, but in louder environments the ambient noise penetrates the ears. However, this is nothing unusual for mid-range headphones. InoneUltimately, it really depends on whether you have a good seal in your ears, whether you have the right size and how you have the volume set. The 6 microphones with beamforming technology deserve great praise. Phone calls are clear and understandable even in a busy environment. ProThe site did not record any strong winds, so the algorithms for suppressing ambient noise and echoes really do a good job of combating ambient influences.
Summary
The JBL Tune Beam 2 is a great choice if you want reliable TWS headphones in the mid-range price range. It offers superior battery life, up to 48 hours of listening time with the case (without ANC), and pleasant, highly customizable sound. The adaptive noise cancellation is not cutting-edge, but it is sufficient in common situations.
I consider the IP54 water and dust resistance a big plus, which expands the possibilities of use in all conditions. During the call, you will be supported by 6 microphones and the JBL Headph app.ones is simply great and takes listening quality to the next level. The design may be inconspicuous, but it is all the more practical. If for some reason the shape of the headphones does not suit you, in addition to the "Beam" series, you will also find a version in the Tune 2 series. Buds (version without a foot) and Flex (cube shape with a foot). So everyone can choose.
If you are looking for a balanced price-performance ratio and want to win with the sound settings on maxOverall, the JBL Tune Beam 2 is one of the best options in this class. Their price is 2590 CZK.
