Google revealed what the Czechs searched for the most this year! Does this apply to you too?

Not only presidential candidates and this year's StarD participantsance, but also the scabies epidemic, the Martin's Day collection or how to file a tax return via a data box. This is the information that Czechs searched for most on Google this year. People said goodbye to Karel Schwarzenberg and asked, for example, why not sleep on your left side or how to freeze strawberries. Google has once again presented an overview of the most frequently searched events, personalities and phrases that aroused the greatest interest among Czechs this year.

Topics related to the presidential elections, the conflict in the Gaza Strip, the record-breaking successful collection for the treatment of the sick Martínek or the burning island of Rhodes appear at the top of the list of terms whose searches have seen a significant increase compared to the previous year. Scabies, which started to spread in the Czech Republic at the beginning of the year, or the opening of the first Czech branch of the fast food chain Popeyes, also recorded a significant increase in searches this year.

Most wanted personalities

The ranking of the most searched Czechs this year was dominated by the presidential candidate and subsequently the winner of the presidential election Petr Pavel. In second place, not only in searches, but also in the elections, was Andrej Babiš. Third place was taken by the Czech internet entertainer and presenter Kamil Bartošek, alias Kazma, who released his first feature film in cinemas this year. People were also enormously interested in the contestants from the StarD show this yearance – Iva Kubelková, Ivana Chýlková and David Prachař. The top ten most sought-after personalities were completed by other candidates from the first round of the presidential elections, Karel Diviš and Jaroslav Bašta.

Farewell to Karl Schwarzenberg and Matthew Perry

This year, Czechs most often remembered the tragically deceased actor Matthew Perry, famous for his role as Chandler from the series Friends, singer Tina Turner and car racer Ken Block, who died in a snowmobile accident. Czechs also remembered the recently deceased Prince Karel Schwarzenberg and the most frequently translated Czech writer Milan Kundera.

What were we most asked about in 2023? 

This year, the list of "how" questions was dominated by elections and questions regarding the use and cancellation of the data box. The question "how deep is the Titanic" took third place and recalls the moments when the whole world was anxiously watching to see if the submarine that went to the Titanic would make contact again. In the "why" questions, people were mainly interested in sleep, whether or not to vote for Andrej Babiš, or why fireflies light up.

The ranking of domestic film and series productions was dominated by the latest Stard seriesance followed by Kazma's feature film and reality show Survivor and Eliška a Damián. But the historical film also scored points Jan Žižka or the futuristic work Point of Recovery.
