KoneThe year is coming a month early. Spotify is releasing its annual overview of the most streamed artists, songs, albums and podcasts in the Czech Republic and around the world.

The Czech Republic listens to domestic music the most

The popularity of Czech and Slovak artists among Spotify users continues to grow, this year 37% more users played local music than last year. Only two foreign performers managed to get into the top ten most streamed artists in the Czech Republic this year. Among the ten most listened to albums, only one is foreign, and seven of the most streamed songs are from the Czech Republic, which is two more than last year.

Dominant position 

One of the biggest successes is undoubtedly Viktor Sheen with his new album Planet of the Apes, which managed to make it to ninth place on the Spotify Global Debut Albums chart. Viktor Sheen confirms his position on the local music scene and proves that he is not only the king of rap, but also a mainstream name.

Calin also consolidated his position at the top of the ranking. His joint album with Sheen called ROADTRIP was by far the most streamed album this year. And in the list of the most played songs of 2023, Calin appeared five times.

Popular abroad

Although Czech listeners prefer Czech in lyrics, local performers singing in English are gaining popularity abroad. Rapper Redzed is the most streamed Czech artist abroad this year, and Mikolas Josef has the most streamed export song Delilah. In second place among the most streamed songs by Czech artists abroad is Vesna s eurowith the visionary contribution My Sister's Crown.

The Rise of the Spoken Word

As in the world, in the Czech Republic, podcasts are an increasingly popular choice for listening. Czech listeners spent the most time with True Crimes. The crime genre is generally popular, Kriminálka and Czech Underworld also appear in the ranking. Among the newcomers, Čestmír Strakatý made it to the top with the podcast of the same name. News shows are also represented in the Top 10, Deník N is in tenth place with its podcast, Czech Radio took sixth place with Vinohradská 12.

In the 99 most streamed podcasts in the Czech Republic, 26% of podcasts are in Czech or Slovak. Joe Rogan was the only foreigner to make it to XNUMXth place.

Who rules the world? Women!

Looking at the global charts, 2023 was a huge year for female artists. Taylor was the most streamed Swift, who swapped positions with last year's winner Bad Bunny. The Weeknd, who was fourth last year, came in third place. He, in turn, knocked Drak off the podium.

Female artists also dominated the most streamed songs chart, with Miley Cyrus' "Flowers" receiving the most streams, while "Kill," released a year ago, came in second place. Bill from American singer SZA.

Album SOS, from which the single Kill Bill comes from, did well as a whole. It was enough for third place among albums. Listeners returned even more often to last year's Bad Bunny's Un Verano Sin Ti and Midnights by Taylor Swift.
