The study looked at how well researchers could interpret EKG data from different wearable devices. Apple Watch here they came out most favorably, but they are no better at detecting atrial fibrillation than the others. Electrocardiography is usually performed on patients to detect abnormal heart conditions, where advanced multi-lead medical devices attached to the person's body, wearable devices such as Apple Watch of course, examinations cannot compare with data from a single lead, but they can still provide important data.

Research, which aimed to investigate the accuracy of ECG wearable devices, was conducted at a university hospital in SwedencarBasel and found that all the people tested had similar results when it came to detecting atrial fibrillation. However, the doctors found ECG data from the watch Apple Watch overall better quality and also appreciated their readability.

The study asked 450 participants at various levels of their medical career or education to evaluate single-lead data from popular wearable devices where, in addition to Apple Watch also featured Fitbit Sense, the KardiaMobile sensor, Galaxy Watch Samsung and Withings ScanWatch. They were tasked with classifying up to 50 of these ECG recordings from ten participants and five devices into three categories: sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, or inconclusive.

The classification of the participants was subsequently compared with a more accurate control sample obtained as a 12-lead ECG recording, which was interpreted by two cardiologists. As expected, the results showed that the cardiologist was able to identify atrial fibrillation using single-lead ECG data more accurately than less experienced novice doctors or medical students. So experience here was clearly an advantage when reading the data.

The essential information is, as the study shows, that regardless of which device we choose, we can be calm about the detection of atrial fibrillation, since there were no significant differences in measurement accuracy between the competitors. However, 45% of respondents said that watches Apple Watch they offer the best quality data and 50% found them to be the most readable. Thus, the research concluded that interpretation of a single-lead ECG can be quite challenging, and the choice of wearable device does not appear to have any effect on this. However, some doctors gave Apple Watch priority over readings from other devices.
