A standalone iPad app is something Instagram is still missing. Meta is a platform that was initially aimed at iPhone and now on Android and the web, it never bothered to optimize for the iPad. Unfortunately, those waiting for an iPadOS version of the app will likely have to wait a while longer. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri once again stated that it was not a priority for him.

While answering some questions from Instagram Stories users, Mosseri was asked when Instagram would be available as a special app on the iPad. The executive responded that "it's not being worked on right now," but not to completely dampen expectations, he later added that an iPad app would be "nice to have at some point," but that there are currently other new features he feels are more important. Considering this attitude and the development of the situation so far, it is quite unlikely that we will see a version of Instagram for iPads in the foreseeable future.

Last year, Mosseri told YouTuber Marques Brownlee that the platform's iPad user base "still isn't a large enough group of people to be a priority" and the team was focused on other things.

It is true that the user base of iPads is significantly smaller compared to that of iPhone owners. This is also confirmed by the number of units delivered, when, for example, in the second quarter of 2023 Apple dodal more than 42 million iPhones and in the same period according to data IDC 10 million iPads. Pro For some developers, this difference is enough to eliminate iPadOS from their plans.

At the same time, however, it must be said that Meta is not a small company without the resources to create an iPad app. For example, Facebook It still has a version for iPadOS. While Instagram certainly makes more sense on a phone because of the cameras, it would be great to have it available on the iPad as well and view photos and videos on much larger displays.

The fact that the Instagram team is not worried about creating an iPad app also raises questions about Threads, even though this new microblogging platform is still not available in the Czech Republic. Similar to Instagram, Threads lacks an iPadOS version, limiting the way users interact with the social network.

Interestingly, the company provides a version of Instagram for Android tablets. One can only hope that it will be available soon.onec will change its mind about the iPad, recognize that the time is ripe and offer users a full and optimized user experience on the Apple tablet as well.
