Netflix recently released the documentary series Queen Cleopatra, which is about the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. However, it is not doing well at all, and director Tina Gharavi, as well as the entire Netflix, is receiving criticism from both experts and the general public. The biggest problem is the casting that the director chose for the role of Cleopatra. The actress is African-American, which the director commented on with the words: " My grandmother told me that it doesn't matter what historians say or what they teach us in school. Cleopatra was black." Unfortunately, the grandmother's opinion is the only thing the director of the series bases her choice on when casting the role of Cleopatra.

The very casting of Cleopatra aroused extreme passions when evaluating the series, but it became the worst documentary in history not only because of the ethnic cast, but also because it simply completely denies the historically proven facts and changes the facts for which the evidence has been preserved to suit the series. This wouldn't be such a problem if it wasn't a documentary. This is, for example, the fact that the document states that Rome was in decline and was dependent on Egypt. At the same time, it clearly follows from historical records and preserved evidence that Rome was the most powerful nation in Europe and Africa at the time.

Egypt is extremely proud of its history and it is not surprising that monuments are one of the most important sources of income thanks to tourism. The country even has an office to protect the history of the country, and it was they who filed a lawsuit against Netflix. The reason for the lawsuit is so-called Afrocentrism and blackwashing. Afrocentrism means you try to see all of Africa as one country that has the same culture and customs, while blackwashing is trying to artificially push African-American artists into roles historically held by whites.
