Commercial message: The start of the year brought a breath of fresh air to financial markets. But can we really expect significant changes, or is this just another bear market rally and after a moment of euphoria, will we continue into a severe recession? Pro To answer these questions, XTB has prepared a series of live broadcasts, each focused on a specific instrument. The first two broadcasts took place last week: Stock outlook for 2023 a Commodity view for the year 2023. What was heard there and what topics will future broadcasts focus on?

Stock outlook for 2023

Stocks and ETFs undoubtedly make up a large part of most investors' portfolios today. In the first stream of the series, Jaroslav Brychta, together with analysts Štěpán Hájek and Jiří Tyleček, focused on this topic.

The fundamental question was clear: Will markets continue to rise? Without a crystal ball, this is of course very difficult to answer, but all participants nevertheless portrayed the situation as best they could. The behavior of the FED (the US central bank) remains crucial for the overall development. Šance for a soft landing may seem more likely than before, but even that does not guarantee a complete reversal of the trend. However, the opening of China and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine are also important factors that can change the whole situation very quickly. However, the stream also included secondary topics. For example, the debate was interesting as to whether the time has come for European stocks or whether the outperforming of their American counterparts in recent months was only a short-term issue.

Commodity outlook for 2023

The second broadcast of the series focused on the development of commodity markets. On this occasion, Jiří Tyleček invited Štěpán Pírek , a specialist in this topic who manages the Bohemian Empire investment fund.

Within commodities, the issue of China and the conflict in Ukraine was raised again. Since both regions play a crucial role in many commodity markets, the development of the situation there is truly crucial for the prices of natural gas, wheat, soybeans and many other commodities. In the second part, the debate then moved on to the question of whether commodities could outperform other assets within the commodity super cycle this year. The impact of ESG policy on the markets was also mentioned, and the last part was devoted to specific commodities: gold, oil, natural gas, agricultural commodities and also the food price index. Štěpán Pírka summarizes the situation as follows: “We are currently seeing upward trends in oil and some other energy commodities, soybeans and an interesting opportunity is also forming in precious and industrial metals”.

As before, the footage is publicly available on YouTube:
