September may not be for Apple the most important month of the year, but for its fans and users it undoubtedly is. It is in September that it usually introduces and starts selling its new phone lines iPhone, i.e. the best-selling productat the company. This year's series is controversial in many ways, although it does push technology forward a lot. The most equipped model is then iPhone 14 Pro Max, which deserves attention in several ways.

As for the design, Apple He didn't dare, which probably no one expected. iPhone 14 Pro Max so it has the same appearance as last year's model, only with a slight adjustment to its proportions. The height has decreased by 0,1 mm, the width by 0,2 mm, the thickness has increased by 0,2 mm, and the weight has jumped by two grams. However, all of these are values that you cannot recognize either by sight or touch. The given numbers are specifically 160,7 x 77,7 x 7,85 mm and 240 g.

Where the differences are clearly visible, however, is in the camera area. Not only is the entire module larger, but the lenses have a larger diameter and also protrude further from the body of the device. So, despite the lenses, it has iPhone 14 Pro Max thickness of 12 mm, last year's generation was 11 mm. Be sure that the rocking of the device on a flat surface will be even greater and no covers will fix it. The increase has occurred in all respects, and if you own the same version of the phone that we had for the test, i.e. space black, get ready for a real amount of unsightly dirt that is practically impossible to wipe off. The only solution is running water. But we are actually used to that.

The new black is very pleasing. Apple darkened it, when in fact it is actually labeled "black", not gray. The frames are really very dark, although the back is still mainly gray. The shiny steel frame, however, results in clear fingerprint adhesion. However, we have become accustomed to this over the years. As for the layout of the elements for shielding the antennas, everything is in its place, as it was last year, the same applies to the volume buttons and the volume rocker. The power button has moved a little lower and is thus better accessible for the thumb of smaller hands. The SIM tray is also below. The internal layout of the computer is probably responsible for this.onent. And yes, we still have Lightning. Was anyone expecting something else?

Apple It hasn't made any effort to make it splash, water, or dust resistant. So it still says that iPhone 14 Pro Max It meets the IP68 specification according to IEC 60529, which means it can withstand up to 30 minutes at a depth of 6 meters. But is it necessary to push this limit further? I don't think so. Maybe when it becomes completely portless iPhone, perhaps we will see even greater depth. But if we were to delve into it iPhone If it fell, you probably wouldn't be able to fish it out anyway. Personally, I wouldn't be able to dive even to 6 meters.

Performance, memory, battery – Standard without surprises

Apple iPhones 14 Pro equipped with the A16 Bionic chip (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine), while the basic models only have the A15 Bionic chip, which is the one present in the models iPhone 13 ProI personally don't notice any stuttering of anything even on the iPhone 13. Pro Max, so it's nonsense to say that the A16 Bionic has any reserves, it simply doesn't. It will handle everything you throw at it, with one exception. If you take photos in ProRAW at 48 MPx, so after pressing the shutter you will wait a moment for the image to be captured and saved. With the iPhone 13 Pro Max and 12MPx ProRAW You won't see this in photos.

Animations are smooth, the system runs smoothly, games are stutter-free. You just have to take into account that if you give the device a proper boiler, it will start to heat up. But subjectively, I don't know if it's more or less like this. iPhone 13 Pro Max, it seems to me the same. Apple he said that thanks to the new 4nm chip, he achieved higher efficiency and with it the endurance, which jumped again, although only by an hour for watching video, otherwise all values are the same, that is, 25 hours of streaming and 95 hours of music playback. It's clear that everything depends on your use of the device, but when you consider that there is Always On, which eats something (about 10% per day) and the device lasts as long as the previous generation, it's nice. Specifically, it's perfectly fine for a day and a half, and if you don't give your phone a hard time, you get two days, which is nice. The longest lasting of the series though Apple reports on the iPhone 14 Plus, but we still have to wait for that, as well as for a direct comparison.

Of course, this is also influenced by the reduced adaptive refresh rate of the display, which reaches up to 1 Hz. Battery capacity Apple does not indicate GSMarena but it says it's 4 mAh, which is quite strange because iPhone 13 Pro Max has 4 mAh. There is the same fast charging, when Apple declares 50% charge in 30 minutes. All we have to do is play his game. Even here, of course, unofficial support for up to 27W charging with a powerful adapter is sufficient, but it cannot be compared to the competition and probably never will be. Apple is simply canned in charging speeds. On the other hand, we are guaranteed that the battery of iPhones will age much later. How about it takes forever to push the phone to full 100%.

We received a 128GB memory card for testing. varianta, there is still 256 or 512 GB or again 1 TB available, nothing more, nothing less. Not even RAM Apple does not matter, again referring to GSMarena, it is 6 GB, the same 6 GB as last year. But as you certainly know, it does not matter at all, because iPhone and his iOS handles memory completely differently than Android and phones with it, which drive RAM values sky high due to the system architecture that needs operating memory, iPhones with iOS ne.

Prochangeable island aka Dynamic Island – The WOW effect still exists

What was captivating about Far Out Keynote the most? It wasn't satellite communication, which we don't use in our parts yet, nor was it car detectiononea trick that we will hopefully never use (and for a long time, for example, Google Pixely), it wasn't even the colors or the 48MPx camera. Everyone knew that Apple is preparing a redesign of its notch, when all the latest leaks were actually telling the truth about its shape. But no one expected what Dynamic Island will be able to.

To put it bluntly - it's bullshit. On the one hand, this is just a certain form of multitasking, when you don't have to switch through the bottom bar, but you can open the ongoing application process directly from this element. On the other hand, it informs you about what you were practically not informed about until now, so it just overwhelms you with visual data. But this piece of crap has managed to redefine the use of cutout/shot as only it can Apple.

Consider how long bullet holes have been on Android, and neither Google nor other manufacturers have addressed bullet holes in their superstructures. When they annoyed someone, they hid them in various sliding and tilting structures, recently under the display – although to a very limited extent and quality. This simply did not occur to anyone and it is clear that this is the thing that interests everyone who is somehow familiar with the issue. Everyone tries different applications and how the element interacts with them. They can even do it in multiple applications, showing one on the right, the other on the left. Dynamic Island It's just fun and will be fun, even more so when more third-party titles integrate it into their solutions. It's clear that this is a new trend that we'll see until all the sensors and the camera are hidden under the display. But that's also why it's perhaps not entirely necessary to iPhone 14 Pro to 14 Pro Max buy just for him.

Always On – Always on display after "apphunting"

The second major improvement to the display is that its adaptive refresh rate can drop to 1 Hz, meaning it refreshes only once per second. This is what made it possible Applu koneApple has the option to add the Always On feature to at least its top-of-the-line models, i.e. nothing more than Always On. Not in the vein of Android, however, but in the company's own sense. But that's not it. Android can only display the time and notifications in an always-on display, the rest is black as night. iPhones 14 Pro to 14 Pro Max but they completely pointlessly display the entire lock screen, including the wallpaper and widgety (except for the precise definition of the Concentration mode).

ProThe problem is that it's too bright. So the display goes dark on minimum, but it can still shine brightly at night, which you don't want. You can teach it to turn off at night, but do you want that? You don't want iPhone koneCan you use it at night to check the time instead of an alarm clock? With this Always On, you won't want to do that because it will burn out your retinas. Completely illogically, it doesn't even display important information. If you don't have it on your desktop widget battery, you don't know its status, or even the charging progress. To do this, you always have to wake up the phone - completely pointless behavior.

You don't even have the option of any personalization and behavior settings, it's just on/off, it did the rest Apple according to how they think it will suit you. Result? After due testing, I turned off Always On. On the other hand, there is clear potential and no need Apple slander like that again. It has a lot of wiggle room for future improvements and it is more than certain to happen. But now it just looks like it was sewn with a very hot needle.

Speaking of the display, it's worth mentioning its specifications. It's still 6,7", and it's still a Super Retina XDR display, i.e. OLED technology. But the resolution has jumped to 2796 × 1290 at 460 pixels per inch. iPhone 13 Pro Max has 2778 × 1284 at 458 pixels per inch. The contrast ratio remains at 2:000, there is True Tone, wide color gamut (P3) and maximal brightness of 1 nits. However, peak brightness (HDR) has jumped from 000 nits to 1 nits, and there is also a peak brightness of 200 nits, at which Apple states the note "outside". Personally, I did not manage to simulate such brightness in the current dry weather. Manually setting the brightness has no effect on this.

Cameras - The best and the biggest

There has already been talk of extreme magnification, and I'm personally curious to see how far it goes. Apple to go Maybe he should rethink his strategy and either redesign the whole module or start reducing the technology while maintaining the quality, otherwise we'll soon end up with really funny solutions that are neither pretty nor practical. The specifications of the new and previous generations can be found below.

iPhone 14 camera specifications Pro to 14 Pro Max

  • Main camera: 48MPx, 24mm equivalent, 48mm (2x zoom), Quad-pixel sensor (2,44µm quad-pixel, 1,22µm single pixel), ƒ/1,78 aperture, sensor-shift OIS (2 . generation)
  • Telephoto lens: 12 MPx, 77 mm equivalent, 3x optical zoom, aperture ƒ/2,8, OIS
  • Ultrawide-angle camera: 12 MPx, 13 mm equivalent, 120° field of view, ƒ/2,2 aperture, lens correction
  • Front camera: 12 MPx, aperture ƒ/1,9, autofocus with Focus Pixels technology

iPhone 13 camera specifications Pro to 13 Pro Max

  • Main camera: 12 MPx, 26mm equivalent, 1,9 µm, aperture ƒ/1,5, OIS with sensor shift
  • Telephoto lens: 12 MPx, 77 mm equivalent, 3x optical zoom, aperture ƒ/2,8, OIS
  • Ultrawide-angle camera: 12 MPx, 13 mm equivalent, 120° field of view, ƒ/1,8 aperture
  • Front camera: 12 MPx, aperture ƒ/2,2

Apple took a big step towardsonehas significantly advanced the resolution and adopted pixel binning technology, although it is Keynote it looked like he had discovered America. This technology has been with us for several years and Android phone manufacturers have long since adopted it. Its advantages are that it can capture more light in poor lighting conditions and provide better quality results, but at the same time it can capture a full 48MPx photo during daytime photography. But be careful here.

This is the biggest advantage you get by combining pixels in poor light. maxminimum quality 12MPx photo, so Apple quite a bit of a pain because to use the entire 48MP sensor with its individual pixels you have to take pictures in ProRAW. And you simply don't want that for regular snapshots, because such a photo can easily reach 100 MB, and it's also ugly, because its purpose is in subsequent post-production. You don't even want to think about whether to take 12 MP or 48 MP photos right now. It's a shame that the company has limited this in this way, and I sincerely hope that with some future software update, the full potential of the full 48 MP will be unlocked. Not everyone wants to take photos with third-party applications, even though they will probably be able to do it even in regular automatic modes.

We still have 3x optical zoom, 2x optical zoom, 6x optical zoom range and up to 15x digital zoom (which you simply don't use). These are the same values as the previous generation. However, in the interface you now have 0,5x, 1x, 2x and 3x, with the double zoom being a novelty. This is a digital crop from 48MPx, which is primarily suitable for portraits when you are neither close nor far from them. Pro However, for regular photography, it is better to use the qualities of a wide-angle lens.

It is nevertheless true that ach Apple he worked on all lenses, especially with regard to shooting in low light conditions, in a direct comparison with the year-old generation, it is difficult to find differences. During the day, you will only see a more realistic shade of color, at night, if you don't have a bright light source, it's useless anyway. It always just needs at least some source, otherwise the photos are useless. Apple The LED has also been improved, but I personally don't see any difference in the result compared to the older generation. The original flash was called True Tone flash with slow sync, now it is adaptive True Tone flash.

Front camera foroneIt can autofocus really well and except for adjusting its aperture, everything is the same here. However, it is clear that selfies are much better, which is important for all lovers of Instagram and TikTok stories and it is quite surprising that PDAF is only coming here now. We still have Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 4 for photos, portraits in night mode, last year's photographic styles or macro photos, where you would also look for some fundamental progress in vain. But then there is the magic word Photonic EngineTo make sure we don't have too many engines, there's another one that takes care of photos and videos.

3, 2, 1 action! – Action mode as a competitor to GoPro?

When you switch to Video in Camera, you will now see a running man icon next to the light symbol. This is a new Action Mode that aims to stabilize your movement when recording without a gimbal. There are no settings here, it is simply either on or off, that's all. It has only one problem, it needs a lot of light. If you don't give it enough light, the result will suffer from a significant amount of noise. But if it does get it, it will reward you with incredible results. However, in Settings -> Camera -> Video recording, you will at least find the Action mode in low light option . You can enable it here, even if the conditions are not suitable for it, which reduces the level of stabilization. Check out the sample videos below. The first is 1080p quality at 30 fps, the second is 4K at 24 fps. You won't believe that I was running while recording.

It reminds me a lot of the now-defunct Instagram app, which had a unique algorithm that could eliminate your movement by cropping the video. But what processes are involved here is not yet known. Competition for GoPro It probably won't be an action camera, because they also score points for their size, but on the other hand, it will provide you with high-quality action footage without the need to invest in either a camera or a gimbal (although the latter, of course, has added value in many of its modes and options).

But there's more going on with the video. Filmmaker mode is like thisonesignificantly more usable because it can record 4K HDR videos at 24 fps, i.e. in the classic film standard (it can also do 30 fps) and no, older models do not get this "feature", so the thirteens remain at 1080p at 30 fps.

Konegood, iPhone 14 Pro Max great but expensive

There's no need to argue about whether there's something better. iPhone 14 Pro Max, and taking into account the diagonal of the display i iPhone 14 Pro, is the best iPhonewho ever Apple created and delivered to the market. It is not revolutionary, by any means, but it determines several trends, which not every generation can say – we have here a 1 to 120Hz adaptive display refresh rate and Always On, we have here Dynamic Island, which turned the iPhone's biggest drawback into its clear advantage, we have a 48MPx main camera here, which can still show what it can do, and we also have satellite communication, although it still has time.

If you ignore the dimensions of the photo module and the illogical Always On, which will certainly be fine-tuned over time, there is only one problem here, and that is the price. That damn high price, which jumped by a whopping 3 and a half thousand CZK on the model, to 36 CZK in the basic 990GB storage. This is the only factor that can play against buying the new product, especially when it is iPhone 14 10 and a half thousand cheaper and we also have here iPhone 14 Plus for CZK 29. Whether you can justify the price is up to you.

Of course, it depends most on which model you are switching from. Of 13 Pro MaxIt probably doesn't make much sense, owners of the 256s have it the hardest, because there are already a lot of new products compared to them. But if you still own the 40s, there's nothing to hesitate about. Let's also add that the 490GB version will cost you 512 CZK, 46GB 990 CZK and varianta with 1TB storage for CZK 53. It doesn't matter what color you choose, whether it's dark purple, gold, silver or the space black we tested.

  • iPhone 14 Pro Max can be purchased, for example, in Mobil Pohotovosti (You can also use the Buy, Sell, Sell, Pay Back promotion, within which you can iPhone 14 get it from 98 CZK per month)
