It's only been a few dozen hours since Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg's threat regarding a potential departure resonated, especially in Europe. Facebooku, Instagram and probably other services of his company from the Old Continent. The reason is said to be new rules for the protection of personal data,  which are supposed to be far stricter regarding the transfer of data of Europeans to the US, which is what Meta services need. However, it seems that the European Union, or rather some of its representatives, are not worried about the potential departure of the world's largest social networks.

After Zuckerberg decided to threaten to pull “his” services out of Europe, at least two leading politicians in the European Parliament have said that it would actually be a pretty good idea. Specifically, the German ministru economy to Robert Habeck together with francOuza minifin streamancBruno Le Maire. First mentioned publiclyonespecifically that without FacebookHe has been living off Twitter for the past four years after his accounts were hacked and he has to say that life without social media is absolutely fantastic. Le Maire holds the same opinion and adds in the same breath that Europe must defend its sovereignty also in the issue of personal data protection.

We can only speculate whether the statement by European Union politicians surprised Zuckerberg or not, as it is true that he might have expected something similar due to past tax disputes. Either way, it is already clear that Meta is leaving Europe.chat he won't want to, because it generates huge money for him. So Zuckerberg may have just wanted to make himself visible, or rather, point out a potential problem that not only his company, but also a whole host of other companies will have to solve.
