When Apple at its opening Keynote to this year's developer conference WWDC introduced its new operating systems, it also mentioned a new feature called Digital Legacy. This is a program that allows users to designate multiple contacts in the event of their death. These selected contacts will have access to Apple ID of the user, as well as their personal information.

Currently only developer version is available betaoperating system version iOS 15. According to available reports, it appears that in this betaversion, it is not yet possible to activate the Digital Legacy service and add people to the Legacy Contacts list. Apple describes the service as a feature that allows users to allow their friends or family to access their photos and other important content in the event of death. Until now, this option was practically non-existent - unless the user died and left behind a locked iPhone, iPad or Mac, it was very difficult, and often practically impossible, to gain access to the device. The Digital Legacy service is intended to allow relatives, family or friends of deceased users to view selected content on Apple the user's device – this will be, for example, photos that could otherwise be irretrievably lost.

Apple has not yet offered any options for managing data after the death of its users. As more and more people store content on their smartphones, computers or tablets, this topic is becoming increasingly important. Social networks Twitter and Facebook has been offering tools for managing accounts after a user's death for some time, and Google also offers a similar feature. In addition to the Digital Legacy program, it is introducing Apple as well as the Account Recovery Contacts feature, through which users can specify contacts to help them regain access to their account if they forget their password.
