The largest drone manufacturer introduced its latest product yesterday – Air 2S. As is customary with DJI, this new product is once again packed with lots of new smart features and lacks the family name of its predecessors from the Mavic series.

A bigger sensor sees more

The size of the sensor is a really important parameter. A larger sensor sees more is not just a metaphor, because the size of the sensor directly corresponds to the number of pixels, or their size. DJI Air 2S offers a 1-inch sensor, which is comparable to the size of professional drones like the Mavica 2 Pro and does not even have to be ashamed of smaller cameras. With the increase in sensor size comes 2 options for what to do with the pixels – we can increase their number, which will give us higher resolution, so we can zoom in and crop photos and videos without losing quality, or we can increase their size. By increasing the pixels, we achieve much better image quality, especially in low light conditions, or even in the dark. Since it has Air 2S sensor twice as big as its older brother Air 2, but at the same time it has a resolution of 12 MP instead of the original 20 MP, this means that Air The 2S has larger pixels, but it also has more of them, so we can zoom in on photos and they will look a lot better in the dark, and that's really something.

The future of video resolution is here

You are certainly familiar with Full HD or even 4K, as these are standard video resolutions that are already quite large and high-quality. The biggest benefit of high definition, especially with drones, is the ability to zoom in on video in post-production without worrying about grainy or blurry footage. For these purposes, 4K is perfect, but we can still go further. DJI introduces 5,4K video with the drone, thanks to which you will be able to capture every single detail. It wouldn't be DJI if the only improvement was a higher resolution, so together with 5,4K, it represents an 8x zoom, thanks to which you really won't miss anything.
To make things worse, Air The 2S can even handle 10-bit D-Log videos. What does that mean? Such videos have a huge amount of colors that they can display. Huge in this case means exactly 1 billion colors, all in D-Log, thanks to which you can adjust the colors exactly to your liking. That all sounds great, but such a resolution with so many colors means a lot of data that has to flow, the average data rate would certainly not be able to handle it. nestI was bored and the videos would be cut off. Air 2S takes this into account and therefore offers a bitrate of 150 Mbps, which is enough for a huge pile of data.

However, video is not everything

If you're not that interested in video and prefer beautiful bird's-eye photos, don't worry, we've got something for you. With the new and larger sensor comes big improvements for photographers. Compared to AirAt 2, this camera can take photos at 20 MP, which is almost double what it could Air 2. Thanks to the larger sensor and f/2.8 aperture, you can create photos with beautiful depth of field. With the f/2.8 aperture comes one problem – such an aperture lets in a lot of light onto the sensor, which, due to its size, captures even more of it than smaller sensors. However, the Combo set offers an easy solution to this problem in the form of a set of ND filters. A larger sensor also means a higher dynamic range, which is especially indispensable for landscape photography.

Anyone can control it

Thanks to improved sensors and new technologies, Air 2S is even more controllable than its predecessors. Anti-collision sensors in four directions can guide the drone flawlessly through forests or houses. With improved technologies such as APAS 4.0, or the pilot assistance system, or thanks to the ActiveTrack 4.0 function, it is not a problem to perform complex maneuvers for anyone. The improved POI 3.0 and Spotlight 2.0 functions should not be missed, which collectively form the basis of a smart drone. Last but not least, it is necessary to mention the new OcuSync 3.0 function, which offers a transmission range of up to 12 km, while also being more resistant to interference and outages. ADS-B works great with the O3, or AirSense, which ensures even better safety in flight areas.

DJI Air The 2S is positioned at the top of the mid-range drones, with a 1-inch CMOS sensor and 5,4K video, it is in the category of professional machines, but its price is much more pleasant. You can buy the best-equipped DJI drone at Czech official DJI e-shop either in the Standard version for 26 CZK or in the Combo version for 999 CZK, where you will find extra batteries for the drone, a great travel bag, a set of ND filters and much more.
