After the arrival of the first Macs with chips Apple Silicon at the end of last year, another batch of machines equipped with chips from the Californian giant's workshop is expected very soon - specifically within a few months. These should be 14” and 16” MacBooky Pro complemented by redesigned iMacs, with both model lines expected to be unveiled by the middle of this year. And thanks to a leak on a processor comparison site spotted by the CPU-Monkey portal, we already know quite a bit about the cores for them.

According to data available to the CPU-Monkey portal, the successor to the M1 chip will be called the M1X, and the main emphasis will be on graphics performance. As for the number of cores for the CPU, there should be twelve instead of the eight that the M1 chip has. In terms of graphics cores, the chip will even improve twice as much, as their number will increase from 8 in the M1 to 16. The chipset as such should run at 3,2GHz and should be manufactured with the same 1nm technology as the M5. The TDP of these chips should be 35W instead of the current 15W for the M1.

At this point, the question is what customization options Apple for their upcoming machines - i.e. whether they will all be fitted with the same chip and differ only in RAM memory and storage, or whether they will have Apple lock CPU and GPU cores, as it partially did with MacBooků Air with M1. Of course, it cannot be ruled out that the basic models will be equipped with M1 chips and the higher configurations will be equipped with M1X chips as higher versions of the previously introduced, but excellent performance chips. However, only time will tell in this regard.
