Although we have been hearing from all sides for many years that when creating access passwords to accounts or devices, it is as strong as possible, there are still individuals among us who do not follow this important security principle. But do you have any idea what passwords won the award for worst and easiest password of the year last year?

Company North pass has published a list of the worst passwords of 2020, which was obtained by analyzing more than five million passwords that hackers managed to steal this year around the world, mainly in Europe and North America. However, stealing is too strong a word when looking at the list of the most popular passwords. The position for the most popular password was occupied by the classic “123456”, followed by the slightly longer, but still simply transparent “123456789”. However, you will not find any more sophisticated passwords on the lower ranks either. Third place was occupied by “picture1”, fourth by “password” and the fifth “12345678”. In general, it can be said that easy number combinations are a small “password” phenomenon. They appeared in the ranking several times. However, people are not creative when creating passwords, even when it comes to words. Of course, the list also included evergreens such as lovely, iloveyou, admin, or dragon. You can find the complete list of 200 passwords here.

It is rather interesting that the names of any phenomenon that would dominate the year 2020 do not appear in this year's worst passwords. The same was true last year, but in 2017, for example, "starwars" was crushing the worst passwords of the year, which was enjoying its golden age thanks to the new movie. Passwords in the style of COVID-19, which unfortunately was this year's phenomenon, you would nevertheless look for in vain in the top this year.

Therefore, if you also use a trivial password for your devices or accounts that could be easily guessed, change it as soon as possible for your own safety. In this way, you avoid many inconveniences that could occur by breaking it.
