Even before the new iPhones were introduced, we often mentioned what this year's generation models might look like. Several different "leaks" appeared on the Internet, which were essentially the same - iPhone 12 will return to its roots in the form of a square design, which we are used to, for example, from the iPhone 4 and 5. And these forecasts were confirmed in October. Version mini It is quite different from its larger siblings, however. Its size is considerably smaller and, as the Apple he emphasized, this is the smallest 5G-enabled phone in the world. The design (not only) of a phone is of course a subjective topic and often depends on the target group. Pro Some people may find sharp edges a hindrance, others may love them. Personally, I have to admit that I fall into the latter group. For quite a long time, I owned a regular iPhone 5S, until 2018. I absolutely loved its design, the phone worked without any major problems and the only thing that limited me about it was its 16GB internal memory. For a long time I have been AppI was expecting it to come with a successor to the iPhone 5S, or rather the first SE, which would offer an edge-to-edge OLED display combined with Face IDBut that didn't happen and the prospects were far from rosy.
So when I look at the new one now iPhone 12 mini, I feel a mixture of excitement, joy and partial nostalgia. This is exactly the model I've been waiting for since 2017. And I'm certainly not the only one. Over the past three years, we've seen various concepts that depicted a similar smartphone with the designation iPhone SE 2. In the attached pictures you can see this year's little one, which is decorated with a great black color. During the presentation of the iPhone 12 and 12 mini I thought that I probably wouldn't be able to choose from the range of colors. But the black color seems very elegant to me, it fits any situation and at the same time it is, let's say, neutral. If you are going to buy this piece and are still hesitating about the color, I would definitely recommend that you see the phones with your own eyes, because photos often distort them. What disappointed me about the phone, unfortunately, is its glossy back. I find the design and workmanship very nice and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised after unpacking and first starting it. However, my joy was quickly replaced by disappointment. iPhone 12 mini It boasts the aforementioned glossy glass back, which literally acts as a magnet for fingerprints and various smudges. A beautiful phone becomes a dirty smartphone after a few minutes of use.one, which doesn't look so nice anymore. This problem has been bothering me for a long time with iPhones with glass backs. The phones themselves offer a great design, but it needs to be hidden behind a case so that the aforementioned fingerprints are not visible. But when iPhone we put the mentioned cover, we encounter another problem. The square design in combination with an additional protective layer practically expands the phone's frames, which I had to get used to for the first two days. These ailments Apple thankfully, it partially compensates by moving the European certification symbols to the bezel of the phone itself. Thanks to this, the back is simpler compared to previous models, and the symbols themselves have practically become invisible. However, as I mentioned above, the processing is generally decent and at first glance it is obvious that the competition still has a lot to learn. Unfortunately, I can't bite the said prints. The situation is similar with aircraft aluminum frames, but the problem can easily be overlooked.
Weight, dimensions and use
iPhone 12 mini managed to gain attention mainly due to its compact dimensions. The dimensions of the phone are only 131,5 mm x 64,2 mm x 7,4 mm, while it weighs only 133 grams. Its weight and size again remind me very much of iPhone SE the first generation, for example, their thickness differs by only two tenths of a millimeter. But when we put the version side by side mini with the classic "twelve," which boasts a 6,1" display and dimensions of 146,7 mm x 71,5 mm x 7,4 mm, we can see a noticeable difference at first glance. It is clear that with this year's little one, the Californian giant is trying to focus on a completely different target group that has been neglected until now.
But how does the phone actually hold when it combines such small dimensions with the aforementioned processing, where sharp edges certainly dominate? If you were among the owners of the aforementioned iPhones 4, 5 or SE of the first generation, then you will not have the slightest problem holding this piece. I must honestly admit that I was most curious about holding the phone, and therefore using it. I can best describe the holding in the same words again, or as a return to the roots. Personally, I think that manufacturers in today's smartphone market are constantly competing to come up with a larger display. I already indicated in the introduction that I am more of a fan of compact dimensions, when the larger size becomes more of an obstacle for me. That is exactly why I was so curious about the version miniFortunately, the phone is very comfortable to hold and we can practically do everything with one hand without encountering the slightest problem. This feature can be an advantage, for example, for people with smaller hands, for whom using larger iPhones is quite a challenge.
If you're planning to upgrade from a larger iPhone to this year's 12 model mini, so the first day of use will be a so-called trial by fire for you. This was exactly my case. Until now I have been using iPhone X with a 5,8″ display, which I have become quite accustomed to over the last two years. For about the first hour, I was unable to write a coherent sentence without a mistake – even the otherwise useful autocorrect could not help me. I got the letters on the keyboard wrong and it was not at all pleasant to use. The Californian giant is constantly pushing the quality of its displays forward almost year after year. The LG G6 is no exception. iPhone 12 miniwhich is equipped with Super Retina XDR panel. If we compare this year's cheapest Apple phone with last year's cheaper "eleven," at first glance we will see a huge difference and a step forward. iPhone 11 bet on classic LCD or Liquid Retina a display that, in my opinion, has no place in 2020 – certainly not on a phone costing more than 20 thousand crowns. At the same time, I would like to emphasize that many users will be fine with a regular LCD display. This year's offer will only include models with an OLED panel. Personally, if I had to choose between, for example, iPhone XS and 11, I prefer the older "XS", precisely because of its display.
Although it is iPhone 12 mini the cheapest model on offer this year, that is, if we ignore iPhone SE second generation, so on it Apple definitely spared no expense and equipped it with its best mobile display, which is the aforementioned Super Retina XDR. We first saw it on last year's iPhone 11 Pro. The display offers a resolution of 2340×1080 pixels and a pixel density of 476 pixels per inch. From my personal point of view, I see the biggest benefit in the contrast ratio of 2 million to one, maxminimum brightness of 625 nits, while in HDR mode it can climb up to 1200 nits and support Dolby Vision and HDR 10. In this regard, I would like to compare the display with last year's "eleven" mentioned above. But as soon as we turn on the display, we start to look at it completely differently. The progress is incredibly noticeable. The same applies when compared to iPhonem X, and therefore XS. Although both phones are equipped with an OLED display, it is still possible to see how it is without a single problem. iPhone 12 mini First. Unfortunately, a higher quality display comes at a cost. This is reflected in battery life, which we'll talk about in a moment.
The switch to a square design has brought another benefit. The rounded edges make the phone look like it has too many bezels. Fortunately, the return to sharp edges puts this problem in the background. I still agree with this opinion and believe that it would be possible to some extent. However, I am quite happy with the path I have taken. Apple decided to release. The cutout has many critics precisely because it worsens the aesthetic side of the product itself and at first glance can seem quite clumsy. Although we have an edge-to-edge display, there is still a rather unnatural and relatively large cutout on the top side hiding the aforementioned camera and speaker. Personally, I have never been one of these critics. I prefer to sacrifice a piece of the display for a relatively 100% safety than to lose Face ID completely. At the first "meeting" with iPhonem 12 mini but I was literally horrified. On such a small display, the cutout looks literally huge, which is also reflected in the return to a square design. In previous generations, the rounded edges masked the size of the notch a little, which can be seen when we put these models side by side. But I still hold the same opinion as I wrote a few lines above. Anyway, if Apple decided to reduce it, I certainly wouldn't be angry. In my opinion, this is an acceptable compromise that you can get used to relatively quickly.
If you watched the presentation of this year's generation of iPhones, you certainly didn't miss the new product called Ceramic Shield. This is an advanced Apple technology that is located on the display itself, thanks to which its resistance is moved several levels forward. The Californian giant specifically promises up to four times greater resistance when the device falls. It all works thanks to nanoparticles of ceramic material. But of course you won't notice anything at first glance. Personally, I didn't notice any difference when touching it. And does this technology work? Unfortunately, I don't dare to say that at the moment, because with iPhoneI'm not going to throw it on the ground.
Performance or the devil in a small body
This little one differs from its bigger sibling practically only in size. Otherwise, it is a full-fledged iPhone 12, which offers the same technologies, the same features, the same camera, and most importantly, the same chip, which is Apple A14 Bionic. As is customary with our reviews, we once again subjected the phone to the Geekbench 5 benchmark test, in which we got 1600 points on a single core and 4131 points on multiple cores. When we compare this result with the classic "twelve," we find that these are significantly higher values, although both phones are completely identical except for their size. Personally, however, I am not a fan of these benchmark numbers and I will only believe the performance when I try it in practice. Since I have encountered a number of Apple phones in my life, I of course have no doubts about them and I had no reason to now either. If I were to take it in general terms, iPhone 12 mini It runs incredibly fast, everything is smooth, and I didn't encounter a single major glitch during testing. However, it's clear that the system and native applications will run quite briskly.

And that's exactly why I went into gaming service. Apple Arcade, where I played the breathtaking game The Pathless. I must admit that the powerful chip combined with the sophisticated Super Retina The XDR display can captivate practically everyone. The game looked great in all aspects and the gameplay was acceptable. In one passage, when there were quite a few objects around my character, I encountered a noticeable drop in frames per second. Fortunately, it didn't last even a second and then everything ran without a single problem. I didn't encounter any more lags after that, not even in other games from the same service. You may also be interested in whether you can play anything on such a small display. It is necessary to realize again what you actually expect from the phone. Personally, I am one of the mentioned undemanding users, and therefore I don't need a huge display that would literally draw me into the game. From this point of view, it seems to me that the phone is sufficient for occasional gaming. However, if you play daily and expect only the best from playing on your phone, I can recommend paying extra for a larger model. I encountered this problem while playing the very popular game Call of Duty: Mobile, where in my opinion the 5,4″ display is insufficient and puts you at a significant disadvantage against your opponents.
Storage
Apple phones move forward every year. And it would be even better if he went Apple forward in the field of storage. This has practically not changed in recent years, which is why the basic model of the iPhone 12 mini internal memory is only 64 GB. Personally, I find it a bit stupid and I can't find a rational explanation. Apple phones are incredibly capable at taking photos or filming. However, these elaborate images are quite large in size, which is why not all the files on iPhone often they don't fit and are only stored on iCloud. If I need to access them afterwards, of course you can't do without an internet connection. Is this how Apple is saving on its customers, or is there something else behind the low storage, I simply cannot explain it and I pray that this "curse" will be overoneinterrupted. And I certainly won't be the only one. I don't need a lot of space myself, because I have everything stored on cloudIn the vast majority of cases, I am connected via mobile data, but I have already met other Apple users several times for whom insufficient storage was literally a suffering.
The arrival of 5G and MagSafe
In the last two years, there has been quite a lot of talk about the arrival of support for 5G networks. While the competition already implemented this feature last year, the Californian giant decided to introduce it only this year. The main culprit is a certain backwardness of Intel, which supplied LTE/4G chips in the past, and disagreements with the Californian company Qualcomm. Fortunately, this huge dispute was resolved and Apple has teamed up again with Qualcomm, which is now supplying 5G modems for new iPhones in large quantities, which, by the way, has had a noticeable impact on their revenues. We must clearly recognize that this is a "small" step forward, which will offer us vast possibilities in the future. But now I am sitting in theancOh my, I have it in my hand. iPhone 12 mini with support for the aforementioned 5G networks, and yet I have no idea how this new feature works. Only a select few in the Czech Republic who are in the right locations with 5G coverage can try it. Unfortunately, I am not so lucky. Moreover, we could already hear about the same problems during the first foreign reviews of the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. Paradoxically, however, this opinion was written by American authors. If we compare the coverage in the United States of America and the Czech Republic, we will encounter huge differences. In the current situation, we can only believe that we will soon be able to enjoy all the benefits that 5G brings with it - we definitely have something to look forward to.

The quality of photos in both natural and artificial light is undoubtedly breathtaking, something we've become accustomed to for a while now. A fairly significant step forward in this generation was the night mode, which (toone(in particular) got on both lenses. If we add to this the Super Retina XDR display and a demanding user, so of course we get a negative rating. In my opinion, the 12 model came in these tests mini into the hands of the wrong people, who are definitely not in the target group. I already mentioned this in the passage about using the phone. This smartphoneone In short, it is not intended for people who need to constantly work on their iPhone, play games, etc. For this reason, I decided to do two different tests.
At first, I used this year's little one in a standard way, the way I use my phone every day. So in the morning I took it off the charger and went to work. Throughout the day, I listened to a few podcasts, and occasionally checked social media, specifically Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook and occasionally I wrote a message. In the evening I played a few games like Fruit Ninja 2 or The Pathless to relax and I ended the whole day around 21 pm with 6 percent. Personally, I think that this is a fairly decent endurance, if I take into account that I also tried to play the mentioned games, which of course I don't do every day. The next day, however, I went about it a little differently. In the morning, I treated myself to a game of Call of Duty: Mobile, took a few pictures along the way, spent most of my time at work testing other games, editing videos in iMovie and generally squeezing the phone as much as I could. And in that case, I can confirm that the flashlight is simply perfect for such cases. nestI had to turn on the low battery mode between one and two in the afternoon, which didn't really save me in the end. But when I went on a trip yesterday, during which I took the vast majority of photos, I again didn't see any handicap in the flashlight that would limit me in any way.
Weak battery combined with first-class technologies and sophisticated OLED Super Retina The XDR display doesn't offer many options. Personally, I don't see it as a big problem. If you want to buy one of the new iPhones, you'll have to take into account how you use your phone every day. Let's pour some wine. From my point of view, the battery is sufficient and if I omit the more demanding test mentioned, I dare say that this little thing can easily handle a one-day battery life.

It often happens to me that I forget to connect my phone to the charger, and when I have to go somewhere, I am horrified to find out that I am completely out of juice. And this is exactly not a problem with this year's little one. The charging speed is incredible and will definitely please every user who forgets to charge like me. With the help of fast charging, I iPhone It was able to charge to 50% in fifteen minutes. This speed naturally decreased immediately, but the phone was still able to charge to around 80 to 85 percent in just an hour. This is undoubtedly a great feature that can be pleasantly pleasing. However, I did encounter some minor problems with the 7,5W wireless charging. Since the phone is quite small, I often had trouble finding the right position on my wireless charger. Because of this, I had to iPhone constantly moving it around and sometimes getting nervous before the charging process itself was initiated. Sound quality

Compared to the previous generation, the sound seems louder to me, but I somehow miss the quality of the bass tones. Specifically, at higher volumes, they sound "tinny" and cheap, which definitely does not add to the beauty of the phone. At the same time, I would like to add that I am not an expert in sound and I certainly would not have noticed the difference if I had not placed these models side by side and tested their sound quality myself. Despite the weaker bass, I am not afraid audio evaluate generally positively.

I don't mind the absence of a telephoto lens, because the aforementioned chip can literally do magic, especially for portrait shots. If you've been waiting for the arrival of such a model, you definitely won't go wrong by buying it. In any case, users who use a telephoto lens should be careful.onem work differently and require, for example, a larger screen or better battery life. I have to admit that this is exactly the iPhone, which the vast majority of us have been impatiently waiting for.

The best phone on the market. As for the battery, I was pleasantly surprised. At max it will last longer than my X ko. It even lasted me two days, but if I needed to browse or occasionally play games, I went to the iPad. The phone was basically used for the occasional call and a few messages. Or one day in full cloud without playing games without problems (I don't feel like playing poker for 3 minutes in the toilet)

This year's iPhones have some kind of bug that also affects my iPhone 12mini. The battery is unusually low, when I'm not doing anything, for example, it drains by up to 30 percent overnight. Try doing a clean install of the system. Restore and then restore from backup iCloud. For me it drops about 2-3% overnight. What you are describing is a common problem with system upgrades and a clean reinstall will help.

I've had battery issues a few times after upgrading. In most cases, completely wiping the iPhone to factory settings and then setting up the iPhone as a new device helped. Most apps store their data in iCloud, so you won't lose app data.

I was passing from galaxy s10e. I can't compare the battery life with the android im because I had battery and charging problems on the samsung but the 12 mini it lasts me a day just fine. I have WiFi Bluetooth turned on non-stop because of the watch, GPS, and mobile data. I only use social networks on mobile. Sometimes an email, a video, a game, a photo shoot. It wouldn't last 2 days when I use it normally, but on a trip when I sometimes check the map and often take pictures, I think it would last two days.
The flashlight is OK for me. Apple made my smartphone dream come true. The only thing that bothers me is FaceID, the need to pull up to unlock and the gesture to take a step back. Android is definitely better in this and any fan would confirm that Apple who would try gesture control on a flagship android.
