Not too long has passed since the release of the official full version of the macOS Catalina operating system. Now, various "childhood diseases" that Catalina - or rather users - have to deal with are gradually coming to the surface. The most recent is issues with the native Mail app - some users are starting to report issues with data loss after upgrading to macOS Catalina.

Developer Michael Tsai is among those who have pointed out problems with the application, for example, who writes in his blog post about apparently successful updates, but after which some users may encounter missing messages or incomplete versions of them. For some messages, after moving between mailboxes, only their header may appear, while others may be completely missing. For users who use native Mail as their primary email client, Tsai recommends waiting to upgrade to macOS Catalina until Apple will come up with a fix for this bug. It is not ruled out that some messages could be completely lost. Tsai also points out that these problems can also be reflected in backups. According to him, the native Mail application no longer performs an automatic full backup of all messages, and the backup may therefore be incomplete. ProRestoring from a backup can also be problematic. In addition, you cannot use a backup from a previous Mojave to restore data lost after upgrading to macOS Catalina. According to Tsai, access to previous versions of Mail data folders can be obtained via Time Machine and then importing individual mailboxes.

A fix for the Mail app issues is expected in a future software update, but until then, users are encouraged to: maximal precautions. What issues have you experienced after upgrading to macOS Catalina?
