During the past week, in addition to Keynote and the introduction of new products was addressed in connection with Applem yet another event, this time rather negative. Indeed, one of the Twitter users stated that Apple deleted several movies he had purchased from his iTunes library.

Specifically, it was supposed to be three movies that the customer had purchased and now discovered that they were not in his library. So he wrote to support Applu with a request for an explanation. He got one, but it certainly didn't please him. Applu told him that the versions of the films he had purchased were not available in the Canadian iTunes Store. And as a replacement Appel offered the customer the opportunity to rent three films for free. He had purchased the original films in the traditional way, so he definitely did not agree to compensation for renting three films.

However, the whole case is much more interesting. The customer moved from Australia to Canada and changed the iTunes region. He bought the movies he doesn't see in his library now from the Australian iTunes Store. These are Cars, Cars 2 and Grandhotel Budapest, and all three are still available in both stores - Canadian and Australian - but due to the region change, they are no longer accessible and appear as unpurchased in Canada. So he can buy the "Canadian versions" of all these movies now, but he can't see the ones bought before the region change in Australia yet. However, the customer himself states that he has purchased more films in Australia and, apart from these three, he continues to have all the others in his library. How is it possible?

Customer communication with Applem:

It is precisely the different version of those films that is to blame, which is also confirmed by Apple: “All movies you have purchased and downloaded can be enjoyed at any time and will not be deleted unless you do so yourself. If you change your iTunes region, some movies may not be available for re-download from the store if the version of the movie you purchased is not available in that country. If needed, you can change your region back to your original and download these movies again.”

The whole problem has a very simple solution, but it requires the user to change the region of the store to the one in which the movies were purchased. These can then be downloaded and set back to the correct current region. The already downloaded movies will then be seen in the library and will be able to play them even though they were purchased in another region. It would definitely be easier to offer one version of all movies worldwide, but this may not be easy at all to arrange due to national legislation and licensing issues.
