Late last week, developers managed to get the firmware (iOS 11.0.2) for HomeWe dig up more information about the upcoming iPhone. This time we learn more details about Face ID, that is, about the facial recognition function, which is supposed to replace the fingerprint sensor Touch ID.

iHelp from the firmware found that the facial recognition function which Apple names as Face ID, is referred to in the code as Pearl. In addition, according to the software, the phone should be able to recognize the face even when it is lying on the table. Apple won so much with the new biometric authentication method that it will be possible to unlock the phone in a fraction of a second, specifically in the order of hundreds of milliseconds.

Face ID should not only be extremely fast, but also accurate and reliable. This will significantly differentiate it from the competition, because for example, with the new Galaxy On the S8, you can fool the facial recognition feature with a regular photo. However, you won't always need to hold the phone directly in front of your face to scan it, as the sensor should be able to recognize the user even at less than ideal angles. How accurate will it be? Face ID It is not yet known how it works, but the most likely option seems to be the use of infrared light.

Firmware HomePodu, specifically the function called "APP"S_USING_PEARL," reveals that third-party apps will also be able to use the facial recognition feature. Similarly, developers can now implement support for Touch ID, so nothing should change in this regard.

On theonec iHelp still discovered a function in the code "PEARL_AUTOLOCK," The question remains as to what it will be used for. However, the developers from the aforementioned server believe that it could be used to automatically lock the phone when Face ID detects an unregistered face. If that is indeed the case, we will find out in a month, when this year's iPhone presented to the public.
