Suppliers AppThey are probably having problems with the production of new memory chips intended for upcoming iPhone models, specifically for iPhone 8, 7s and 7s Plus. According to a report published on Digitimes, suppliers SK Hynix and Toshiba are unable to meet the demand of the Cupertino company. Apple for this reason turned to Samsung, which should produce the missing number of memory chips.

NAND flash memory chips are used to store large amounts of data. It is a non-volatile memory, which means that the data is preserved even after the power supply is disconnected. But there is also modern 3D NAND flash memory, which stacks layers of memory cells on top of each other, and thus can store much more information in the same physical space.

Apple started using 3D NAND flash with the iPhone 7. As this is a modern type of memory, suppliers haven't figured out all the tricks yet, so it's easy to make bad pieces, which Apple cannot take the risk. So, to compensate for the lower production of its two primary suppliers, it has approached Samsung. The South Korean company is expected to start producing 3D NAND chips for iPhone.

V iPhonech 7 are 48-layer NAND flash memories, while in iPhonech 8 should already be 64 layers, so it should be raised maximal storage capacity. It is expected that iPhone 8 will be available in two variantach, in 64GB and 256GB.

According to Reuters, there has been a shortage of DRAM and NAND flash chips in the global market because Apple buys chips of given parameters for its future products. And honestly, which company wouldn't want to become a supplier? Applu, and so other people interested in these types of memories are relegated to the background.
