Looks like emojis are in for Apple really important lately. With the addition of multiple skin tones, gendered emoticons, and professions for both sexes, now comes the spotlight on another group that might feel discriminated against – people with red hair. Apple namely, he has called a special meeting of the Unicode Technical Committee (UTC - Unicode Technical Committee) for next week, which will discuss the most appropriate way to add the emoji with red hair to Unicode.

According to Emojipedia, which published a report on the session, its users complained most about the absence of emoticons with red hair in the last three months. Apple is therefore trying to respond to these complaints and wants to discuss with others the possibility of creating the requested emoji for Unicode and thus for iOS, macOS, and other systems. Red hair could be added to basically every current emoji that has been created. For example, red hair could be added to the facepalm emoji, all professions, and of course the regular male and female emoji, regardless of skin color. (Although, honestly, who has ever seen a black man with naturally red hair?)

Currently, around 1-2% of the population has red hair, which is quite a small number to give every emoji a red head. On the other hand, it is questionable whether a single emoji for each gender will be enough to calm the complaints that have arisen in recent months. You can see what such an emoji with red hair might look like in the gallery below.
