Every now and then there are rumors that someone has found their old iPhone lost/drowned/frozen/buried and still worked. It's hard to say what's true about these stories, but they happen and people often tell stories about them. Sometimes it's hard to believe that a phone can survive several days underwater, when sometimes a simple fall is enough and it's all over. Today, another similar case appeared on the web, which is very well documented to be some kind of sensationalist hoax.

Michael Guntrum from Pennsylvania lost his in 2015 iPhone 4. He drowned it after it slipped from his lap into the water while fishing. Unfortunately, he was fishing on a frozen pond, in which he made a small hole in the surface. So the phone sank to the bottom and Michael was unlucky. Coincidentally, the pond was drained in September of that year, due to problems with the dam reservoir.

This is where Daniel Kalgren comes in, searching for lost and sunken treasures that may lie at the bottom of the lake. He searched the muddy lakebed with his metal detector until he found it in October of this year. iPhone 4 by Michael Guntrum. To his surprise, the phone worked. All it needed was a good cleaning and placing it in a container of rice for two days, which sucked out all the moisture.

The phone was reportedly buried in more than 15 centimeters of mud. The main reason it survived several months underwater and in frozen mud was because it was in a high-quality protective case. Some water and dirt got inside, but it was not a lethal amount. After two days of drying, iPhone 4 turned on. Found again iPhone so it will travel back to its original owner.
