With a few exceptions, today's manufacturers are trying to fit as much computing power as possible instead of making the bezels thinner.onent into the smallest possible space. This is a race to see who will have the thinnest device. Japan Display is trying to make today's smartphones even more compact, which it wants to achieve with extremely thin bezels around the displays.

For a few years now, we have been used to devices with thin bezels only on the sides. Almost every device still has a large amount of unused space above and below the display, which could serve as an extension of the display while maintaining the same size. Under these parts, most of the components are hidden.onenty such as the call speaker, microphone, home button, speaker, camera and other sensors.

The only exception is a smartphone from Sharp called Aquos, which has no unused space above the display and also lacks a speaker for calls. This is replaced by the user pressing the ear to the display and the sound is transmitted by vibrations through the bones. Another such device could be a display phone from Japan Display. This company just showed a prototype device with very thin bezels around the display.

ProThis type was made using a new, denser wire arrangement that will allow the device to have almost no bezels. Japan Display plans to start mass producing this “Full Active” display towards the end of 2017. Of course, it will be up to the phone manufacturer to figure out how to fit the remaining components into the bezel-less body.onenty.
