The truth is that today's children have difficulty mastering spelling, mostly through trial and error. Fear of failure and poor grades lead to dislike of the subject and loss of motivation in younger school years, and in secondary school they result in disinterest in learning the mother tongue and there is no shortage of conflict situations. Many adults try to solve their children's spelling problems by overwhelming them with practice. ProThey practice both at school and at home (even five or six exercises a day), and buy exercise books for the holidays. In reality, however, they waste time (the child must first understand the grammatical phenomenon, only then does it make sense to practice anything) and the loss of motivation of all involved deepens.

So what to do when our efforts visibly fail?
We can change the things that really matter to us ourselves. This certainly includes the approach to teaching spelling. You just need to know how to do it. This fundamental change in the concept of teaching does not require any school reform or media outcry. minieducation system. It will not cost you any or any extraordinary financial resources, just time, patience and common sense. That's all. Any teachable person, whether a teacher or a parent, can do it. The situation may be lengthy, but it is not at all complicated. All you have to do is focus your attention on what is missing in today's teaching for completely incomprehensible reasons - getting children to think in gradual steps (seriation), insisting on their compliance (using verbalization = say what you are determining right now and why) and checking this.

This is exactly how the Cursed Czech learning program works!
It brings sets of exercises through which children learn how to proceed in solving grammatical phenomena, such as spelling i/y after double consonants in the middle of a word and at the end, how to orientate themselves in the construction of words, ... with subsequent practice.
Exercise packages (there are around 120 exercises in each grade) are based on the content and structure of the newly prepared series of Czech language textbooks for the 1st grade by the authors Zdeňka Topila, Dagmar Chroboková and Kristýny Tučková. The exercise packages contain all the grammar content, including sentence structure, and will gradually cover the entire primary school curriculum.
