Just shortly before today's conference, Google presented its news. In addition to introducing the Nexus 6 smartphone and the Nexus 9 tablet, the company also introduced its own Nexus Player set-top box, which is more or less Google's direct answer to Apple TV. The player from Google is the first device that is powered by the system Android TV and in this case it must be admitted that Google has indeed overtaken Apple on the line, as this device offers what customers have been asking for for several years - an app and game store, voice control and a modernized design.
The difference in design Apple TV and the Nexus Player mainly consists of a new shape that fits better with the new one Mac Pro. The Google Nexus Player has the shape of a hockey puck, which contains everything you need. In addition, there is a shiny black controller in the package, which is almost as simple as the k controller Apple TV, so we can count all the buttons on the hands. As I mentioned above, Android TV offers a shop Google Play and in it, users will be able to download games such as Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio, Angry Birds Stella, but also better titles such as Need for Speed Most Wanted and GTA San Andreas. These games can then be controlled with the help of a dedicated controller, which is similar to that of the Xbox One. This controller is sold separately for an as yet unknown price. The Nexus Player itself is scheduled to go on sale this Friday, October 17.10. for $99 or CZK 2.
Nexus Player is inoneas a result of the fact that Apple under the leadership of Tim Cookand no longer attacks, but just waits. Speculations circulating about the next generation Apple TV, which circulate on the Internet, fell into the hands of the competition, and one could reasonably expect that the competition would not wait for Apple after 2,5 years of waiting, they think it's time for an update. We could also encounter the same thing with watches Apple Watch, which in their first generation do not offer practically anything that the competition does not offer - if we do not count a much richer range of straps, expensive materials and apparently a functional system. In terms of battery life, however, the competition is already ahead - I personally charged the Samsung Gear 2 every third afternoon during active use. Apple meanwhile, it has trouble reaching 1 day's endurance.
In addition to the Gplay store, it's much more than that AppleIt does not offer TV. According to the specifications, it has little power to play some 3D games, little RAM for android and very small disk to store some better games. That is that it is so for receiving video content and playing stupid games such as Angry Birds. I hope that AppleTV will be one step further.
So the power of the new atoms for mobile 3D games like those on Android or iOs that's enough Rather, the non-expandable internal memory without cards will be a problem. But at least it has a reasonable price, with the Nexus 6 and 9, due to the high price, in my opinion, the sales will not be as high as the previous Nexuses, which are often almost half the price of the competition.
I do not like apple, I don't understand applol, I don't like it apple, I don't understand applol, I don't like it apple, I don't understand applu…

It's a joke… :)
thomaso: No, I don't like it Apple and that's why I bought it iPhone a MacBook.
@thomaso DON'T DRINK THAT SLIVOVICA IN SUCH A QUANTITY, IT WILL OBVIOUSLY HARM YOU.
"Smartphone" fuck me
It would be quite enough for me Apple TV, she could play mkv files. Chap, that Apple wants to make money from movies from iTunes, but it's obvious to think that people would rather buy/position old movies than for 50euro they didn't buy a box where I can watch significantly newer movies and in better quality.
@Kengura and what is your problem with HANDBRAKE? https://handbrake.fr/
Kangura> maybe it would be enough if some player could be uploaded there that would allow it. But no, it's so damn secure that nothing can be done with it.
Apple TV without the ability to play your own mkvs it is completely uninteresting.
I have had a proven WD HD TV Live for years now, which is a player with USB to which I have a 3TB NAS connected via the network, and I added Google to it Chromea part for playing things from a mobile phone, tablet, etc. It wouldn't be bad to have it in one device, but so what?
Zabak: Tim would cut himself a branch if he allowed people to play mostly stolen MKV on it
El Barto> I don't think so. You can play any MP3 you want and Apple it doesn't solve it.
K apple TV imo the must have application Beamer, through which you can appleTV stream virtually any video, including CZ subtitles. The license is definitely worth the money.
Exactly, Beamer was the first thing I started using after buying the ATV. Tech 10$ is definitely worth it.
I have 2x apple tv with jailbreak and connected to time capsly and for me it's the best for watching movies and series.
Electropunker> for current Apple TV Does JB exist? I stopped watching it about a year ago when it was still not doing well.
Well, it's playing MKV on Apple TV can be treated quite easily. MKV actually has the same container as MP4, so the great utility MP4tools will convert MKV to MP4 in about 2 minutes without any loss of quality.
Of course, it is capable of recoding audio and video, or pasting subtitles... I have an entire film library made in this way, shared through itunes and to my complete satisfaction. But that doesn't mean that I would go for a new one AppleHe didn't like TV. :)
I don't really crave games, but the author is basically right. The same is true for new ones Windows 10 where again Apple fell asleep when he could have at least allowed the use of iOS applications on OSX. There are woefully few things in the OSX store anyway, and this would make a difference. Apple he doesn't wait, everything just takes him a long time. He messes with everything and the result often doesn't match it. The only thing they've put more energy into lately is to make it happen on time. iOS7 and I'm still not convinced that this is the right way, but they basically didn't mess anything up. So don't mess with everything like Ive did with watch design for 8 years!!! for goodness sake.
What about recording MKV to iPad/iPhone and then playing it via AirPlay?
It works for me using AVplayer.
