The first digiroman in Slovakia (and in the Czech Republic), Apokalypsa, jumped into the second half (out of a total of 13 episodes, 8 have already been released – the first two were free on www.digiroman.sk ), so it's time to evaluate this effort a little. The creators are reporting great numbers of downloads, possibly thanks to the recent resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.
The resignation of the Pope probably helped the digiroman Apocalypse, which was published just a few days before the surprising resignation of the Holy Father. The digital novel is a conspiracy story about the unexpected resignation of the Pope and his subsequent disappearance. The incredible similarity has already caught the attention of thousands of Slovak readers – digiromán was for a long time the most downloaded free application in Appstore for iPads too iPhone and the number of downloads does not decrease even three weeks after the publication of Apocalypse.
"Perhaps even this right timing may have contributed to the fact that digiroman was among the most downloaded applications for a long time," says Ikaru's marketing manager Milan Buno, who collaborated on digiroman. According to him, the conspiracy thriller won over readers not only with a great – and now also extremely topical – story, but also with a number of short videos, sound effects and interactive elements.
The most popular according to comments and reviews are, for example, the following effects :
- snowy or blood splattered display
- safe, in which you must enter the correct combination in order to continue reading
- effective waterboarding video of the novel's main character, the reporter Peter Adama
- mysterious symbols that appear in the background of the text you are reading
- the scene in the Pope's personal library when you "light" a candle on the display and read the next chapter with it
- parchment in Latin about a mysterious prophecy, which you unfold and read on the display
An interesting function is also the Inventory, which automatically includes documents and objects that the reader comes across while reading. And there are many similarities between the book and real events – on the day of Benedict XVI's resignation, lightning struck St. Peter's Basilica. In the book, even the famous basilica lies in ashes after a devastating explosion. Even the pope's resignation in the book was unexpected, surprising. The Holy Father immediately disappeared without a trace, and behind the closed doors of the Apostolic Palace, a fierce struggle for power raged...

Initially, the digital novel had minor problems - it did not work correctly on some mobile devices, some effects could not be played, but the creators are gradually removing the errors. There are not only a lot of devices with different display resolutions, but also versions, so it was not possible to edit such a complex digital novel with dozens of videos and effects for all versions. According to our information, the most widespread mobile devices and versions were preferred.
Nice. Still catching flies.
